how to modify variables of another frame (but not global)
Hello! Maybe "frame" is not the right term in this context. I explain my problem by example code: fun2 <- function(objName, add) { ## the object "objName" should be increased by "add", ## but the evaluation should be done in the calling function (here: fun1) ## ...... what's the right code?? } fun1 <- function() { x <- 1 fun2("x",

Compact Indicator Matrices
An indicator matrix is a binary matrix with orthogonal columns whose rows sum to 1. A row of this matrix could be [0 1 0 0]. My problem is to group the similar rows (profiles) so that to create a compact form of the matrix. Is there an R function that deals with this problem or do I have to write it from scratch? Thanks, Angelos Markos Dr. Applied Informatics, University of Macedonia, Greece

Setting up com1 in wine.
...file manager, andit's just not there. and I usually use that as a point of reference to use when I'm trying to cd into a directory to do any file changes. I'muxing Xubuntu 8.04 and I have wine 1.0 I'm trying to use this program called COOLSAT loader 7000 to load up some files to a F2A satelite box...and I need to find out a way to get wine to tell this program it has serial ports. (Another file loader recognizes my inbuilt serial port perfectly) Can you please tell me how to do this in simpler terms and without so many assumptions about what I know?
