Valid users directive

Winbind and Samba authenticate correctly. The issue arises when I try to limit the users who are allowed to use a my share folder. Most of the information I have lookup seem to say that I should

Documents in home folder 'Read Only'
My user is logged in to the Samba Server. smb.conf has the following: [homes] comment = Home Directories read only = No create mask = 0775 directory mask = 0775 browseable = No writeable = Yes The files in the user's home directory are set to chmod 777. What do I need to do to enable the user to write to her Directory?

Samba or NFS for a new domain member server
I have 10 XP clients authenticating against a Samba PDC, using passwd as the passdb backend. The Samba PDC provides several shares to the XP clients. Priviledges on the Samba PDC are controlled by *nix user and group permissions. I do not have any Windows servers on my network, so we do not use any of the Windows group capabilities beyond the default groups. My Samba PDC is running out of room,

creating a machine account for a Windows VM from the command line
I had the need to access a Windows 10 VM but discovered I was locked out. I have the passwords for the domain administrator and a domain user but I get an error "The security database one the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship". I normally have a local user account to log in with but its password isn't the one I remember. There are

error trying to authenticate from Linux to AD
I'm following the Debian wiki at https://wiki.debian.org/AuthenticatingLinuxWithActiveDirectory since it seems to be the only one I can find and since I'm running Debian/Bookworm on an AMD64 system. I'm in the section "Configure Kerberos" which is near the start. My /etc/krb5.con file (with most comments removed) is: > # cat /etc/krb5.conf > [logging] >

My Samba setup was working until several months ago. I didn't do anything to it that I can recall but it stopped letting my Windows VMs connect. When I use smbclient to try to connect, I get session setup failed: NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS My Internet searches have revealed that this is a comon and long-standing issue: frequently reported but I've had no luck finding anyone posting a
