Can rsync server mark deleted source files as extraneous?
rsync --delete option tells rsync to delete extraneous files from the receiving side (ones that aren't on the sending side). But if a user accidentally deletes a file, there is no way to restore it from the server. If --delete option is not used, and the local hard disk is destroyed, restored data will include old deleted files. Is there a way for rs...

"extraneous" in commit 3bd9f51917ed5718275c6132006be155239a0550
In this commit you put "extraneous hard-linked files". I find this confusing because the hard-linked entries may have been created by rsync itself. I think the previous version is better. Or you could put "If there are files that are hard-linked at the destination but not at the origin".

Extraneous full stop in csv read
I ran into a puzzling minor behaviour I would like to understand. Reading in a csv file, I find an extraneous "." after a column header, "in" [short for "inches"] thus, "in.". Is this due to "in" being reserved? I initially blamed this on RStudio or to processing the data through LibreCalc. However, the same result occurs in a console R session. Sending t...

disable "fake" samba authentication error messages
What bothers me is that samba is filling up my log files with a lot of extraneous/fake entries about authentication failures. Extraneous kruft [signed]
Looking through the build files I'm wondering if we can't do some clean-up and remove extraneous kruft before we release. Like the config.dbs and the README.build that talks about the config.dbs. From looking through the build setup I don't see either file actually critically needed and looks like Ralph may have come to a similar conclusion by the comments added to the README.build file....

base::format adds extraneous whitespace for some inputs
...m, First of all, thank you for your amazing work on developing and maintaining this wonderful language. I just stumbled upon the following behavior in R version 3.6.0: format(9.91, digits = 2, nsmall = 2) format(9.99, digits = 2, nsmall = 2) yield "9.91" and " 9.99" with an extraneous whitespace. My expected output for the second command is "9.99". I have not found anything explaining the whitespace in the help files. Therefore, I am writing to report this behavior as a possible bug. Best wishes, David

[PATCH v2v] v2v: Remove extraneous '=' when setting --bandwidth/--bandwidth-file.
Commit c3a54d6aed6dfc65f9ffa59976bb8d20044c03a8 ("v2v: Add standalone nbdkit module.") was supposed to be a simple refactoring but it broke the --bandwidth and --bandwidth-file options (amongst other things). Because of an extra '=' character which was accidentally left over, it would add an extra character in the nbdkit-rate-filter command line. For example: virt-v2v ..

extraneous mail folder created
I'm trying to set up dovecot on a Fedora box for about 5 users, I have a raid 5 array that is used for home folders etc mounted on /home, and I've created a directory /home/mail, which I have used a sym link to map /var/mail to. I've created folders for each of the users with relevant permissions and edited the dovecote config with:- namespace private { separator = / prefix =

Just delete extraneous files, without updating other changes?
Hello all, I thought --recursive and --delete-before might be an option and I can quit rsync when it begins the updates, but the incremental recursive scanning is disabled and this will certainly crash rsync as it was before moving to v3.x (too many files). I have no experience with --write-batch but I wonder if it's safe/sane to edit the resulting batch output file, or by doing a
