Ext3 Journal corruption on hitachi deskstars
I recently came across an enormous cluster of x86 clone machines running fedora core 1 (2.4.24) which have typically all intel or amd have VIA IDE chipsets. They frequently experience corrupted journals rendering the ext3 partition in read-only mode. More important than recovering the filesystem, I am interested in finding the root of the problem. The common hardware that all of these

repeated crashes
Hello, I've got a problem that is not solved after an e2fsck. What happens is that the kernel (vanilla 2.6.12) does this: journal_bmap: journal block not found at offset 1036 on hda6 Aborting journal on device hda6. ext3_abort called. The filesystem is mounted with errors=panic, so the system reboots. At boot-up an e2fsck is run on /dev/hda6. Sometimes it finds errors, sometimes not. Example: e2fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) data: recovering journal data contains a file system with errors, check forced. Pass 1: Checking ino...

Recover original superblock on corrupted filesystem?
I've been trying to use fsck to recover a corrupted filesystem. It appears the original superblock is corrupted too, as it has an inode count of 0. When I start fsck with -b 32760, it uses the alternate superblock and proceeds. However, it restarts from the beginning a couple of times and after the second restart it doesn't use the alternate superblock, stopping instead as it can't

I have had in years past seen hardware (SCSI) RAID controllers lose it electronically causing the kernel to fill the logs with scary SCSI messages and ext3 to complain about "holes" in the filesystem like so: Sep 7 14:47:17 thewarehouse1 kernel: EXT3-fs error (device sd(8,81)): ext3_readdir: directory #376833 contains a hole at offset 0 I'm using drbd and heartbeat so whatever
