subset a defined row plus the aforegoing
Hello, my data is sorted by start.ens (see below). And now I would like to extract all rows (so called* defined row*s) with type==Expression - subset (df, type==Expression) - and the aforegoing type==DNase HS (which is not necessarly row n-1 - assumung that the defined row is n). I dont know how to add this to my subset command. Is that possible? Thanks Hermann > df start.ens fc.trans

Isotopic notation in plots
I really like to use R for all my graphs, and as I work with stable isotopes I want to have a proper chemical notation in my plots I have looked at ?plotmath, but didn't find the answer and also searched the R website. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- plot(1:10,xlab=expression(^{14}*C)) # I want to have a superscript with nothing in front, but it

Evaluating expresssions as parameter values
I need to play games with an expression similar to the following one: print(xyplot(DepVar ~ Group|Covar, groups=Othergroup, data=mydf, pch = 18 ,main="Testcase",auto.key = TRUE)) The problem is that the formula argument (the first argument) an the groups argument are passed over from another program as strings. The formula argument does not pose problems, I can do

fuzzy merge
...inute data). But this is only a partial solution as I am not interested in data where the time difference is more than 15 minutes. How can I make the merge to work for fuzzy matching? Would it be easier to convert the times into data classes? Or, it better to treat them as strings and use regular expresssions for doing the matching? I would appreciate any help that I can get. Thanking You, Ravi

Obtaining a derivative of nls() SSlogis function
Hello, I am wondering if someone can help me. I have the following function that I derived using nls() SSlogis. I would like to find its derivative. I thought I had done this using deriv(), but for some reason this isn't working out for me. Here is the function: asym <- 84.951 xmid <- 66.90742 scal <- -6.3 x.seq <- seq(1, 153,, 153) nls.fn <- asym/((1+exp((xmid-x.seq)/scal)))

problems with nonlinear fits using nls
Hello colleagues, I am attempting to determine the nonlinear least-squares estimates of the nonlinear model parameters using nls. I have come across a common problem that R users have reported when I attempt to fit a particular 3-parameter nonlinear function to my dataset: Error in nls(r ~ tlm(a, N.fix, k, theta), data = tlm.data, start = list(a = a.st, : step factor 0.000488281
