Subject: Expedite scalar f(x) evaluation over vectors
To: r-help@lists.r-project.org
Dear R community,
I am trying to code a fairly complex equation for optim(). My current
approach is too slow for optim().
I have a function that takes a double integral (hopefully correctly) across
two terms, e.g.,

RTP/SIP traffic prioritization and Linux issues
Hello, all. I've stumbled across what seems to be a traffic
prioritization issue in a Linux environment and wonder if anyone else
has encountered or addressed this issue.
We had planned to use expedited forwarding for our RTP and perhaps our
SIP packets. Our plan was to set DSCP to 101110 (by the way, I think
document http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/snom+360 is in error as I'm
almost certain the expedited forwarding bits are 101110 and not 100010).
However, we realized that when these pas...

I would like to rapidly evaluate this function over vectors c1 and c2 of
equal length where the double integral is calculated for each (matching)
element c1_i & c2_i. At present I get length mismatch errors. Furthermore,
mapply() takes too long. Can I expedite this evaluation or do I need to
reformulate my approach?
Thanks in advance for your help,

[LLVMdev] [LLVMDev] [Fishing expedition] Virtual Machines and LLVM
When attempting to compile a dynamic language like python/java does
LLVM allow a function to compile itself one at a time? In other words,
can I parse a function, then gain the machine bit code, then execute
without parsing the other functions related to the compiled function?
Thanks,

climstats
I have been trying to download the climstats package:
https://r-forge.r-project.org/R/?group_id=861
but it doesn't seem to run on R 3.0.2 or 3.0.1 and the zipfile is empty.
Does anyone know the status of this package or where I can download it.
Thanks

Correlation for no of variables
Dear R helpers,
Suppose I have stock returns data of say 1500 companies each for say last 4 years. Thus I have a matrix of dimension say 1000 * 1500 i.e. 1500 columns representing companies and 1000 rows of their returns.
I need to find the correlation matrix of these 1500 companies.
So I can find out the correlation as
cor(returns) and expect to get 1500 * 1500 matrix. However, the process

We are currently at a point where we can slow down the refactoring effort for the purpose of expediting the big functionality boost: outer loop vectorization ----- and by doing so encourage more participation from the wider LLVM community in the refactoring effort to expedite the overall transition to the VPlan framework.
Shortly, we will send out an RFC to solicit community feedback on our plan to trade-off between 1) making concurrent progress on refactoring and outer loop vectorization and 2) finish refactoring and then adding outer loop vectorization.

(Fwd) [SA11578] Icecast Basic Authorization Denial of Service
This issue was identified about a month ago and a fix (by Mike) is
currently in SVN...it would probably make sense to do a patch release, or
even better, expedite the 2.1 release.

What I've learned about FXRegistry and Windows so far
I learned some interesting lessons while working with FXRegistry so far. I
decided to blog my learnings so I can remember them later.
I thought I''d post a note here in case anyone is interested. There are 2

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Raising minimum required Visual Studio version to 2013 for trunk

follow a specific protocol for reporting bugs (and the RFaq section 9
does not request port-mortem dumps, or list bugs nots to report),
specifying this protocol on the R-Bugs page will expedite matters.

FW: authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fail s (URGENT)
Hi folks,
Can anyone shed light on this issue? I haven't heard from you guys. Is there
anything else I could do to expedite resolution of this issue? I've read the
WHATSNEW.txt and reviewed the release notes. I am not sure if I've fully
grasped what needs to be done. Can someone point me in the right direction?

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Raising minimum required Visual Studio version to 2013 for trunk
I’d like to propose raising the minimum required compiler for the LLVM & Clang trunks for Visual Studio to MSVC 2013.
Doing this will allow us to take advantage of a bunch of C++11 features that are not supported by MSVC 2012. According to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh567368.aspx) the list is:
* Non-static data member initializers
* Variadic templates
* Initializer lists

Randomization for block random clinical trials
Hi,
I’m new to R (just installed today) and I’m trying to figure out how to do
stratified randomisation using it. My google search expedition has lead me
to believe that blockrand package will most probably be the answer to it.
I’ve played around with blockrand for awhile and tried the sample code:
library(blockrand)
##stratified by sex
male <- blockrand(n=100,

Hi, I am trying to get assured forwarding/expedited forwarding with gred and htb working. Below is the script I am using.
The following steps are what I thing is how the script works. My problem is that if I remove the HTB qdisc from the script and have the GREDS parent as the dsmark it works, but when I add the htb as a parent of GRED and DSmark t...

Ah yes, that looks like the culprit indeed.
I shall poke the powers that be over at Debian bugs to expedite the 2.2.28
release and backport.

Very simple traffic shaping script for H.323
...uring over several RFCs, Howto documents, and lots of other
documentation, I think this very simple script will do the trick.
The theory - by default, all interfaces have a classless PFIFO queue
with three bands. So all I need to do is set the appropriate DS bits in
the packet header to the EF (Expedited Forward) value and everything
else will just work. Linux will put the packets in the top PFIFO
priority band and they''ll go thru my Firewall at Warp 9.9 regardless of
other traffic from other users.
Assumptions:
(1) I don''t care about slowing down other traffic flows. H.323...
