NHW Image codec
Hello, Yes, that's right.I still think that it would have more weight if I could claim that Xiph has reviewed the source code and find that the NHW codec is royalty/patent-free (better than me alone claiming this...).Maybe it was in this sense that Ralph Giles answered me? The current landscape is such that "being clear of patent concerns" is impossible. Someone can be destroyed by the legal process that results in them being exonerated, but then left with no will nor resources to continue development. I don't say this to scare you away, just understand that asking Xiph to "clear" the patent issues doesn't make sense. Xiph is a non-profit organization that advances the cause of free, open, and royalty-free tech...

...research.?? What to do instead of this is a tough question, but it is fairly clear that the current plan isn't working.?? I have seen many cases of two papers which both found a risk increase of 1.9 for something where one paper claimed "smoking gun" and the other "completely exonerated".?? Do YOU want to take a drug with 2x risk and a p= 0.2 'proof' that it is okay??? Of course, if there is too much to do and too little time, people will find a way to create a shortcut yes/no rule no matter what we preach.?? (We statisticians will do it too.) Terry T. [[alte...

rsync failed: Too many links
Dear Sir or Madam, Has anyone seen a error message like the following? rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "/home/kmiller/briefcase/1205275" failed: Too many links (31) rsync: stat "/home/kmiller/briefcase/1205275" failed: No such file or directory (2) As far as I can tell, I am not using any symlinks or hardlinks. Hung kernel task on CentOS 7.2, fprintd and libvirtd
A CentOS 7 box here recently started being very slow to give the Password prompt when using sudo. (25 seconds!) I eventually tracked this down to the following complaint in the kernel message log: > Feb 26 12:55:05 badboy kernel: INFO: task fprintd:1932 blocked for more than 120 seconds. > Feb 26 12:55:05 badboy kernel: "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs"

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down... http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing comment: "If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually become ubiquitously implemented
