puppet seems to be restarting itself very often
...(middle of the night
etc)
Tue Dec 11 12:34:48 -0500 2007
//base/puppet/puppet::client/Service[puppet]/ensure (notice): ensure changed
''stopped'' to ''running''
It''s also quite odd that puppet when it runs it thinks it''s not running,
seems to be an existential crisis.
Anyone else seen this?

[OT] What is the best network monitoring tool?
...ave a big question.
What is the best OPEN SOURCE solution for monitoring multiple Host and
Services, for example for using in a WebHosting Provider with 50 hosts or
more.
Currently, I'm using NAGIOS for more than 3 years, this is a incredible
tool, but before upgrade to version 3, I have this existential question.
Please fill free to recommend any soft, but with this option in mind.
1- Easy option to personalize any plug-in
2- Good Documentation
3- Support large platforms
4- Run over Linux
Sorry for me English

Cannot destroy snapshots: dataset does not exist
Hello,
I have a ZFS filesystem (zpool version 26 on Nexenta CP 3.01) which I''d like to rollback but it''s having an existential crisis.
Here''s what I see:
root at bambi:/# zfs rollback bambi/faline/userdocs at AutoD-2010-09-28
cannot rollback to ''bambi/faline/userdocs at AutoD-2010-09-28'': more recent snapshots exist
use ''-r'' to force deletion of the following snapshots:

Heartbleed openssl vulnerability?
Do we know if dovecot is vulnerable to the heartbleed SSL problem?
I'm running dovecot-2.0.9 and openssl-1.01, the latter being
intrinsically vulnerable. An on-line tool says that my machine is not
affected on port 993 but it would be nice to know for sure if we were
vulnerable for a while. (Naturally I've blocked it anyway!).
Thanks

Updating a Markov Chain
Hello,
my question is if anyone has any good ideas how to create a Markov Chain
from ordered data. So, I have some sort of time series, and if value1
happens as time1 and value2 happens at time2 I record this as an update to
the probability transition matrix. The problem is that I cannot predefine
the size of the matrix (as I don't know how many states(values) I will have
in the end) and

French accents on characters
Hello
Could someone please direct me to the correct commands for adding accents
(grave and aigu) to a letter in a plot title, label, or in added text? I'm
sure there's a handy list somewhere, but I've failed in coming up with the
correct search words to find it.
Thank you muchly!

License on rsync ??
...wrote.
I realize I should probably leave it at that before I say too much. And
merely ask if there are alternative licensing possibilities, such as BSD
or LGPL, for the rsync backend.

CentOS 8 Install as DOMU in PV Environment
Christoph,
I understand this is the better option if HVM is available.. Im not sure how to make use of this kernel in a non-HVM, PV environment. I'm a little disturbed by the fact that there isnt PV support in CentOS 8, I hope it comes later so at least PVH becomes an option.
As for using this kernel in a PV only environment, the only route would be attempting an in place upgrade and try to

How is everyone structuring stories?
Bleeding-edge story-writers,
How are you structuring your specs?
I am working on a new project and tried this:
./lib
./blah
./spec
./blah
./stories
But it breaks autotest, so I moved stories parallel to lib and spec.
Also what about suffixes?
I have adopted "xyz_story_spec.rb", and "xyz.story" for the time
being, with the line

IMAP ACLs and global ACLs in v1.2
I just committed code for IMAP ACL support based on the code from Kolab
people. I did quite large changes though.
I also changed how global ACLs are handled. Previously local ACLs could
override global ACLs, but now that users are able to modify the ACLs I
think it should be the other way around. From what I've heard global
ACLs are typically added for things like 1) disallowing user from

GUI's for teaching
Dear All,
There is no advantage of GUI over CLI, IMO. The real
issue is the answer to the questions: "What should I
do next?" or "What am I allowed to do here?"
A "nice" interface, not necessarily GUI, will offer
friendly answers: "I was expecting you to do _this_"
or "In this situation you are allowed to do _these
things_"
You see, it's all

gaming on multiple OS of the same machine?
Hi,
I am new to Xen and I was wondering if the following construction would be
feasible with the current Xen.
I would like to put 2/3/4 new computers in my house, mainly for gaming.
Instead of buying 2/3/4 different computers, I was thinking of building one
computer with a 4/6/8-core CPU, 2/3/4 GPUs, 2/3/4 small SSDs, and attach
2/3/4 monitors to it, 2/3/4 keyboards and 2/3/4 mouses, and run VGA
