R and computer heat
...temperature of my laptop rises sharply during execution of a
long R script that generates several hundred plots, all of them saved to
files. No screen output. Temps reached above 90 Celsius degrees in the box
and above 80 C deg in the processor. The machine turns on cooler at maximum
speed and exhaled air is really hot. Tried similar operations (batch
graphic and music format conversion) and temp rises were usual.
System: laptop, Turion 64, Kubuntu Linux, Xorg X server 1.4.0.90, KDE 3.5.9,
R 2.7.2 compiled with MBCS, PCRE, etc.
Could it be fake due to an interaction of some R piece with syst...

HELP...Running data
...to resolve it.
It would be fantastic if someone can help us.
Thanks.
Description:
This study examined how the metabolic cost of locomotion varied
with speed, stride frequency and body mass. Cost was determined
by measuring oxygen consumption (?vo2?), analyzing the oxygen
content in air inhaled and exhaled by the subjects through a mask.
The rate of oxgen consumption was measured for three ?subject?s
locomoting at all combinations of low and high levels of the three
factors - running ?speed?, ?stride? frequency, and ?mass?
distribution in the leg. The first factor was set using a
treadmill, the secon...

two questions about regression models and clustering routines
I managed to use an example (see attachment) of clever regression
routines. I customized it to suit my needs.
The initial model I try to fit consists of the first 10 powers of time
(time the observation was recorded) and the first 10 powers of the
phase. In fact my files record patients' breathing signals as a
sequence of breathing cycles. Every cycle sampled phase (inhale -
exhale) is mapped

SPAM on rails-list
This is a high traffic list as it is and it is really annoying to see
that SPAM is on the rise here.
I wonder how they can spam the list since each user has to be
authenticated. Do spammers go through the trouble of subscribing to
the list? In any case, this msg is to the list admin...could you
please do whatever it takes to filter this stuff out?
Thank you very much.
