computing differences between consecutive vector elements
Dear R-users, I am a newbie to R so please excuse this naive question for which I couldn't seem to find online answers. I have this data frame containing a series of locations through time (x,y,z,t). I would like to compute the difference in x, y and z between t-1 and t. Sounds easy enough, but how on earth does one loop through vector elements and compute this difference? Thanks Thomas

Many "Error: Corrupted index cache file /XXX/dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size"
Hi all, I just joigned this list, so I'm sorry if this problem has already been reported. I'm running Dovecot 2.0.13 on many servers, one for POP/IMAP access, others for LDA, others for authentification only, etc. All servers are accessing a shared file system, based on MooseFS (www.moosefs.org). The FS is mounted using FUSE. All my Dovecot servers have this configuration :

weird scaffolding error
I have generated a scaffold with controller ''Exclusive'' and model ''Exclusive''. when viewing /exclusive/list it brings up an error "while trying to load the following files: exclusife.rb" Note the crazy spelling. I''ve looked through all of those generated files, and nowhere does it say ''exclusife''. The table name is exclusives and the pluralizer says that it okay... is this some sort of reserved word thing? ______________________________________...

using Rterm under cygwin, no possiblity to delete characters
Dear R-users, When I call Rterm from cygwin, I have no options but typing the exact syntax the first time. If I happen to hit the "delete" key (backspace), R dies when I press enter saying : Error: ... (error concerning the function on the last line of text) Execution halted Perhaps some of you have experienced this and found work arounds? One has to be pretty good to type without

Inverse Prediction with splines
Hello, I have fit a simple spline model to the following data. Data x y 0 1.298 2 0.605 3 0.507 4 0.399 5 0.281 6 0.203 7 0.150 8 0.101 Model Sp.1=lm(y~bs(x,df=4)) Now I wish to inverse predict the x for y=.75, say. Optimize works fine for a polynomial but I can figure out how to get the spline model into the function argument. Can anyone help me out. Thanks!! Jeff Jeff Morris Sanofi

ocfs2 and Suse 9.2
I'm having some problems with ocfs2 and Suse 9.2. The documentation for ocfs2 says it comes with Suse 9.2. I've installed Suse and used YAST to get to SP2. # SPident -vv Summary (using 612 packages) Product/ServicePack conflict match update (shipped) SLES-9-x86_64 0 0% 293 47.9% 44 (1597 18.3%) SLES-9-x86_64-SP1 0 0% 110

Executable 'username map'
Hi, I currently manage an environment where my Unix and Windows usernames are defined, but different. So, I must use a username map. But I have several Samba servers (one for each NFS package) and I must maintain all these username map files. As we want everybody to map the same way on every Samba servers in a NIS domain, we added the 'Windows user' information to the NIS

averaging 3D datasets
Dear R-users, I've spent most of the day reading R documentation at length but couldn't find something perhaps obvious. I have a dataset made of 3 morphometric variables for a series of watershed [log(slope); log(drainage_area); distance_to_outlet] My aim is to predict the value of log(slope) for pairs of [drainage_area; distance_to_outlet] (sounds like a plain linear model fitting,

Adding lines to xyplot with abline
Is it kosher to add, say, horizontal lines to a lattice xyplot using abline(h=xxx)? The lines don't appear at the right value, that is, if h=150, the line might appear at h=140? Bug with OpenSSH and Crontab under Solaris 8
Hi, I have a issue with OpenSSH 3.7.1p2 and crontab (solaris 8). The crontab will not execute correctly the commands if I edit it by using OpenSSH. client (Solaris 8 / Openssh 3.7.1p2) ---> server (Solaris 8 / Openssh 3.7.1p2). Next, I edit the crontab with "vi" using a console session and I save it without doing modification. The crontab works perfectly now ! ? I have

openssh connection hangs upon shell exit
I am using an openSSH server on a privately built distribution. I am can login with an interactive session, use scp and everything is fine except that when I exit the shell of an interactive session or when the copy transfer terminates (scp), sshd hangs forever. The shell process is in the zombie state, which indicates that the openssh process for the connection has not checked the child status.

xenconsole: How to get out?
Hi, XEN has a console that works in text mode ("xm console", e.g. via SSH). However with a German keyboard I''m having trouble to get out of the console again. Usually I login to Dom0 from another terminal, and then kill the xenconsole process. However I''d wish there was an easier way to get out. Maybe add a configurable escape key like for SSH? sshd accepted fingerprint logging
Currently, LogLevel must be set to VERBOSE to see the fingerprint of an accepted key, and the default LogLevel is INFO. Since this is useful security information, I would like to propose that the 'Accepted publickey' message be modified to include the fingerprint of the accepted key. Is this a reasonable solution? Here is an example log snippet with LogLevel VERBOSE: Oct 1 15:23:24

xen-3.0.2-3
Hi I read a few times in the web about xen-3.0.2-3 but I cannot find a place to download it. Not even here: http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos/xen/downloads/ Where can I get it? And does it have network issues solved? And what is the most current kernel I can use with xen? How do I change the source to use a more current kernel than 2.6.16.6?
