search for: exclude_files

On Linux, an rsync command and exclude_file contents of: # cat exclude_file /etc/alsa # rsync -a --delete --delete-excluded --exclude-from=exclude_file /etc server::module properly excludes /etc/alsa but not any file within /etc's directories that is named alsa. I'm trying to use rsync to mirror an entire FreeBSD 4.5 server. This includes the kernel and quite a few other system level files. As one might expect, rsync hangs when it tries to copy the kernel file. Has anyone had success with this kind of setup?

Running client and server on Ubuntu 9.10. Version 3.0.6 on both sides. After the SSH connects, both rsyncs are started, but before it starting scanning for files, it just hangs. strace says they are both waiting on select() (I can attach strace files if necessary). I have updated the klibc patchset based on feedback received. In particular, the patchset has been reorganized so as not to break git-bisect. Additionally, this updates the patch base to 2.6.17-git12 (d38b69689c349f35502b92e20dafb30c62d49d63) and klibc 1.4.8; the main difference on the klibc side is removal of obsolete code.
