Help with SCGI please :(
Hi,
While learning Ruby and Rails, I decided I just as well learn Linux
along the way... It''s been fun, but I''m stuck at one of those
exasperating moments... I hope someone can help me :)
I installed Ruby 1.8.4 on Fedora Core 4, then Rails, then lighty, and
then SCGI.
I used yum to install lighty... and it already comes with mod_scgi.
I created my first application in

undefined method `include''
I''m getting this error in Rails:
undefined method `include'' for
#<MenusController:0x408efd1c>
The offending code is:
require "rexml/document"
include REXML
I see there may be a problem with GCC 4 on OSX, but
I''m using Redhat with GCC 3.2.

How-To for FC4/Samba
Can someone point me to a step-by-step on samba w/FC4? Honestly, I'm only
trying a basic share, no rocket science. I've already a samba server on RH9
with the same clients and users trying to access a share on FC4. Logs and
testparm returns everything fine. Had SELINUX on and off. Cannot browse even
home directories.
Thanks,

How can I import user-defined missings from Spss?
Hi,
It works for me to import spss datasets via library(foreign) with read.spss or via library Hmisc by (spss.get).
But no matter which way I do import the data, user-defined missings from Spss are always lost.
(it makes no difference if there are a single value, a range, or any combination of them. They are always ignored).
Is there any way in R to find out if any value was user-defined missing

I think people have been more than a little disingenuous in claiming
that getting the Rmetrics package to go under Linux is transparent.

MusicOnHold with mpg123
Alright, I've come across a really strange issue and I've been banging
my head trying to figure it out.
I have 3 machines. 1 Dell Dimension 4100, Pentium 3. 1 Dell 400SC,
Pentium 4. 1 Dell 1600SC, Xeon. I run mpg123 0.59r on each machine.
Using RH9 with a 2.4.20-8 kernel, each machine plays MoH flawlessly.
As RH9 gets older and older, however, the need to upgrade arose. So I

small bug in apply() ??? (PR#7205)
System: R 1.9.1 on Windows 2000.
Description of problem:
So far as I can tell, this occurs only when using apply() on an array of
dimension >=3 AND when for each iteration the function returns a named
vector of length >=2. I propose the source of the bug and the fix below,
but let me stick to the facts first.
Here is an example:

LINUX gfortran.so.3 missing

The fix is to re-install the packages that was linked to gfortran.so.3.?
This is a real simple fix, only I don't know what packages are at issue
to re-install all at one time, so periodically I have this issue appears
much to my exasperation.
If anyone knows how to determine all installed packages with a gfortran
dependencies, then we could submit a short update script for this.
Thanks

Rsync doesn't log properly when in standalone daemon mode
I'm trying to get over an exasperating problem with rsync 2.5.7, but
I'm not making any headway. The nut of the problem is that the
rsync daemon seemingly ignores the "syslog facility" configuration
when running in standalone daemon mode, as opposed to being started
with inetd.
So, for example, if I have my configuration file with
[global]
pid file = /etc/rsync/rsyncd.pid

How to troubleshoot network woes with Wine?
The app which I am currently trying to get to work properly (Cinema4D
network rendering client - it does work 90%, depending on how you look
at it) does some weird things, like receiving jobs from a server,
computing them, and sending the rendered scenes back to the server
(actually I don't know if it's sending them back, or if the server is
fetching them; I don't even know what the

accurate is obscure and arcane in the extreme. If you know the answer
already, you can find it on the web. Otherwise not.
I expect a command to work, given that the syntax used is correct.
In this case I followed *EXACTLY* (and if you sense a tone of

and they *did not work*. Saying "Oh, you must have messed up your

glm analysis repeated for 900 variables
Dear R users,
Could you help my with the following problem?
I want to repeat a glm analysis with 2 independent variables for all 900
variables (snps) in my data set. So, I want to check whether snp1 has a
different effect on my outcome variable in patients and
controls(phenotype). And repeat that for snp2 to snp900.
Is there an easy way to get a summary of the data, e.g. a list of P

Thanks for reading, this got a bit longer than I intended...

Samba strict allocate = yes stops btrfs compression working
Hi,
If i set strict allocate = yes in samba to speed up the transfer
of a mssql database dump,
then btrfs does not compress the file.
I have tried it also by just copying a small file in Windows to the
samba share and the same.
I have tried btrfs mount options autodefrag and then
btrfs fi defrag -c and the file still does not get compressed.
I have tried kernels 3.6.11, 3.8 and 3.10.7 on FC16

Supervoice 2.6 comms program (for fax and voice etc) in wine
Has anybody had experience with installing Supervoice (2.6) fax/voice
software in wine?
I've installed it apparently OK (although I do seem to remember getting
some error on installation) - it seems to start to run OK, but with some
glitches! Each time, it wants to re-detect and configure the modem -
why?! Also, it shows me the messages (fax and voice) which were stored
in the modem (USR 56K
