Help with correct text file syntax EXCLUDE/INCLUDE + OPTION
Hi,
Linux-Ubuntu here. English is not my first language. The man rsync is
difficult to understand. I want to backup some folders recursively and
some files, see [1] in my /home dir to an external USB HD (Ext4). I want
to use a text file for the purpose.

Problem with evolution while upgrading to CentOS 5.2
Hi!
When trying to prepare a workstation with (so that the real "yum
upgrade" doesn't have to download the packages)
yum upgrade --upgradeonly
it fails with these messages:

Fedora 11 i386 Evolution address book --> CentOS 5.4 x86_64
Finally moved my home desktop from Fedora to CentOS. My spouse was
unhappy with me upgrading from F9-->F10-->f11 etc and wanted something
more stable.
I built a second machine which is now running in parallel to the old F11
desktop. I moved my data (mail and files) from the F11 box to the
CentOS 5.4 box. I used tar to move everything. Mail and files
transferred A-OK...but the Evolution

Desperate to upgrade from RedHat 9 to CentOS 4.4
I'm desperately trying to upgrade from RedHat 9 to CentOS 4.4, but the
one thing that's really causing me problems is migrating from Evolution
1.2.2 (bundled with RedHat 9) to 2.0.2 (bundled with CentOS 4.4.
When running Evolution 2.0.2 for the first time, with Evolution 1.2.2
folders and files in evolution folder in same partition, the automatic
migration process starts up and seems to

issues with cifs mount
I have a samba 3.0.14a PDC on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE.
With pam_mount on Ubuntu 5.10 users have their home
mounted with mount.cifs.
I have 2 issues with this setting.
First with the evolution email client, when I pop my mails
I have the following error:
Cannot append message to mbox
file: /home/profs/user1/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox: Permission denied

CentOS 5 Evolution Update errors.
Folks,
Evo update on my 4.x worked just fine. 5.0 generated a bunch of parsing
errors preceded and followed by a couple of I/O errors that appear
related to an unavailable URL.
I first figured corruption on my node, so I yum erased evo, its -
connector and -webcal units. The data-server removal looked as if it
might remove half my Gnome desktop, so I left it in place.
Then I did a selective

Multiple program instances or multiple log ins?
This all comes out of figuring out how I might run Evolution like I run Eudora.
I see where Evolution places its data in a hidden directory: ~/.evolution
Now why it is felt necessary to put all of this stuff in hidden
directories is beyond me.
So it would seem that Evolution is treating each useid as a
personality for the logged in user.
Given the way Evolution organizes its data, I could

Maildir + Evolution
I don't know if this is an Evolution bug or not, but when I use the
maildir format with Dovecot 0.99.10p2 (from OpenBSD packages collection)
and connect to it from Evolution 1.4 using IMAP, Evolution displays
subfolders incorrectly. It actually does not show any subfolders, only
root folders with names like "Folder.Subfolder" and
"Folder.Subfolder.Subsubfolder".

IMAP4rev1 broken with evolution
Hi,
I'm running 1.0rc6 on Solaris/SPARC, compiled myself against openssl.
Client is Evolution 2.6.2 on my gentoo x86 laptop.
As Dovecot is not yet productive, we run it parallel to UW-imap, on
other ports. I use TLS.
If I configure my evolution client with server-type IMAP, everything
works fine. However, dovecot claims IMAP4rev1 support. However, when I
set server-type to IMAP4rev1 in

Why my Evolution cannot delete emails in dovecot IMAP folder?
I use Ubuntu Hardy, get mails locally and run dovecot listening on
localhost. I run Evolution and have it connect to dovecot, so that I
can access my mail in IMAP and be able to use mutt from remote.
So far so good. It works. However, my problem is that Evolution cannot
delete any messages. That is, when I click DELETE in Evolution,
Evolution no longer sees the message , but the message is still

Evolution forgetting read mail
Hi all,
Has anyone seen Evolution "forget" which emails have been read in CentOS
4?
I have a client that's reported he's reading his email, closes
Evolution, and when he starts it again, the messages are marked as
unread.
I found bug reports about this here:

Thunderbird vs. Evolution vs. OwnCloud
Hi,
I'm currently using Thunderbird synced to OwnCloud on my main
workstation running Slackware64 14.1. I just installed CentOS 7 on my
Asus S300 laptop. It's running nicely, and I'm spending some time
getting acquainted with it.
I wonder if I should stick with Thunderbird or go with the default
Evolution application, since this seems to be better integrated into the
desktop, namely

how to best import Evolution/Thunderbird mail into dovecot?
Hi.
I'm migrating all my mail archive (some 60 GB) from Evolution (which is
really a broken piece of software) into dovecot.
Now I face the problem how to do this best...
Evolution (which is still a old 2.32.x version) itself uses mbox files,
in a special hierarchical structure to allow subfolders and that like.
It also stores it's own status info in X-Evolution and
