...and 0 based on whether the speech is detected. In the version of the software compiled against the Win32 version of Speex, speex_preprocess_run always returns 0. If I remove the IF statement, then I get voice transmission, so the mic is working. Is it something to do with VAD sensitivity?

But the compiler complains that was_voice is not defined, which, I
assume, comes from the fact that preprocess_state is declared in

How do I check the preprocessor for the presence of voice in a frame?

When I try to play outBuffer with waveOut, I can hear the voice

be greatly appreciated!!!

...audio sample as well. If we deal with 16-bit samples, then two Chars would describe a sample, and so on.
My question is on how to deal with Speex output -- if I get a float or a short from Speex' decode function, how does it map to audio samples described above?

correct thing would be to encode (either using the int or the float
version) and do the conversion by hand using proper endianness. To do
that, you need to actually figure out how Windows actually interprets
its stream of bytes (can't help you on that).

Evgueni,
Don't listen to this guy. The last thing someone confused about types
should use is a union. Listen, whatever types you're using, you're just
dealing with data in memory. For an array, it's just a big block of data in
memory. You need to know how that data is stored in memo...

you're feeding (or converting) chars. Unless your machine has very
special chars (which I doubt), a +-32767 value just isn't going to fit
in. This has nothing to do with Speex BTW, it's just handling the audio
data properly.

Problem related to Voice activity detection
hi guys,
i am trying to develop an application having a capability to detect voice activity in voice stream and then record only portion of this stream which contains the activity. i went through these steps.
1. Captured voice through Waveform Functions of Windows Multimedia API
2. Started Speex Preprocessing liberary
3. Turned on preprocessor by calling speex_preprocess_state_init and

...tor code 15. This gives me a single encoded frame.
(5) Then, pass that single encoded frame to speex_bits_read_from and
speex_decode_int. Keep decoding frames until the end of the buffer.
(6) Assemble decoded frames into a buffer and pass it to the speaker
Is that the right workflow?
