Matrix Multiplication, Floating-Point, etc.
Hi.
I recently tried the following in R 2.5.1 on Windows XP:
>ev2<-c(0.8,-0.6)
>ev1<-c(0.6,0.8)
>ev1%*%ev2
[,1]
[1,] -2.664427e-17
>sum(ev1*ev2)

(I got the same result with R 2.4.1 on a different Windows XP machine.)
I expect this issue is very familiar and probably has been discussed in this
forum before. Can someone please point me to some d...

I think the eigenvectors are misbehaving too:

Critical Issue - Site down...
We have a site that is running Mongrel and is down.
Below is the Mongrel log file information.
The server is a Linux server with 2gb of RAM.
EV1 (hosting site) says that since this is a Linux server that the RAM
is cached and that there is plenty of free memory available.
Can anyone make sense of this error and have some suggestion of options
that I may take to correct this issue and get our site up and running?

Win32 Version?
Howdy...
I have searched the archives, and even read what has been posted on the site
regarding a Win32 port of rsync. Though I have found a problem with
everything. The URLs for building your own, or downloading the compiled
binaries for the Win32 platform are no longer valid. Therein the problem
lies, as the information is outdated, and still easily available on the site
publicly.

Problems with rsync on Unix->Non-Unix Kernel Transfers...
Howdy...
I have been doing some reading of the rsync technical report, rsync man
page, and the rsync web site, and I have learned allot, but having a high IQ
does help. I have read the rsync, and rsyncd.conf man pages in regards to
the switches, settings, etc., and summized that rsync is specifically
designed for copying files between Unix kernel systems, regardless of
flavor, platform, or

VoIP service recommendation
I am planning to sign up for a VoIP service in the U.S. Can anyone recommend
anything cheap, reliable and good quality? I want to use it for my primary
house phone (I also own a cell phone).
I also want the service to be asterisk friendly so I can play with it :-)
Thanks in advance.

Problem with Samba on Solaris 2.6
Hi All
I downloaded the binary package of Samba 2.2.2 on Friday from one of the
Samba mirror sites, I think Belgium, and installed it on a Sun E450
running Solaris 2.6.
Today everything has fallen flat on its face. Unfortunately I am on
holiday this week so not able to deal with the problem directly, but via
telephone calls. Apparently what is happening is that smbd is gobbling

important caveat with Rsync on NT and dayligt savings time
Hi,
just a small warning about something that has, like we experienced just
last weekend, great consequences.
We rsync more than 20 Netware servers through a mapping on an NT machine to
central Rsync destination servers (also NT). Last weekend our clock changed
to Daylight Savings Time. It appears that NT changes the file stamps on
NTFS volumes accordingly (Q129574 on their suppor site). This

[PATCH 0/7 v2] Fix and workaround for qcow2 issues in qemu causing data corruption.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=836710
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=836913
There are at least two related bugs going on:
(1) Linux sync(2) system call doesn't send a write barrier to the
disk, so in effect it doesn't force the hard disk to flush its cache.
libguestfs used sync(2) to force changes to disk. We didn't expect
that qemu was caching anything

[Slightly OT] Do you use virtualization in production ?
Hi!
I''ve been using parallels, vmware player, or virtual pc (did not try xen
yet) for development, testing and experimenting with new platforms (and I
must say I love them - copy paste a few files, and I have a clean deployment
box etc)
Since the RailsConf and various talks I''ve seen (like Jason Hoffmann''s

[PATCH 0/3] tests: Introduce test harness for running tests.
These are my thoughts on adding a test harness to run tests instead of
using automake. The aim of this exercise is to allow us to run the
full test suite on an installed copy of libguestfs. Another aim is to
allow us to work around all the limitations and problems of automake.
The first patch makes an observation that since the ./run script sets
up $PATH to contain all the directories

Disabling NBT
I would like to disable NBT on my network but I also want to put SAMBA to greater use. Is there any way to do this without NBT? If not, will a future version of SAMBA be available that can?
