Connecting ethX devices directly to a KVM/QEMU guest OS (no bridging)
...de and four LAN-side ports, which will not be shared with any
other guests. Remote access to the host CentOS is via a separate
on-board NIC, so the Intel ports are free to assign.
I've Googled until I'm blue in the face, but haven't found a clear
explanation of how I can assign each ethX device directly to the guest
OS rather than going thru the usual bridge configuration. I need to
allow the m0n0wall OS to assign the LAN and WAN IP addresses, if that's
possible without using a bridge.
Using the Virtual Machine Manager GUI to create the VM guests (which

wiki : https://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS7 : FAQ 4.: "hand-edit the configuration files" ethX alias replacement
...sure if this should be an extra faq question, or incorporated
in FAQ 4)
I have used some time on this matter, and there are lot of suggestions,
and probably also half way correct but misleading information.
One direction is to disable NetworkManager and make aliases the old way
(copy the ifcfg-ethX file to ifcfg-ethX:X and do some changes). I got it
to work, but only with "ifup ethX:X". I did?t get ethX:X to start during
boot. I stopped testing it, and got back to use nmtui.
The other direction in in a non-graphical environment is to use
NetworkManager with nmtui. Adding the ext...

Setting up virtual ''ethX'' devices in Xen 3.4
Hi all,
Up until now, we''ve been using Xen 3.0 on CentOS 5.x. Under this
setup, dom0 was given a virtual ''ethX'' with the original ''ethX'' (now
''pethX'') IP address. Under this older config, neither ''pethX'' or
''xenbrX'' had an IP address. The logic was to keep traffic from the
domU''s, through the bridge and out ''p...

How does the libvirt deal with the vnet mac address
How does the libvirt deal with the vnet mac address?
Greetings,
if I establish a network for the VM (hypervisor is KVM) using bridge in the virt-manager , a vnet0 device is created . There are some relationships about mac address between the vnet0 device in the hypervisor and the ethX device in the VM, for example :
the mac address of vnet0 is FE:54:00:84:E3:62
the mac address of ethX in the VM is 52:54:00:84:E3:62
two mac addresses above are almost the same except the first part of the address .
but if I created a tap device manually ,
tunctl -t tap0 -u root
brctl addif br0 ta...

the pre-deployment stage so I am just setting up the basic cookie cutter
configurations so I haven't initiated the iscsi connection to a SAN yet.
While going through the error messages I noticed this error:
kernel: bnx2i: iSCSI not supported, dev=ethX.
First time I have seen this error while configuring previous Dell
servers, though I noticed most of my older boxes are using the tg3
module for the onboard NIC's.
Has anyone run into this error message and if so does it means what it
says....iSCSI not supported for the target device?

Redefine ethX interface names in CentOS 5.11?
...UBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*",
ATTR{address}=="2c:27:d7:15:54:a1", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0",
ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"
To swap interfaces, I simply have to switch the respective NAME="ethX"
attributes and restart the server.
How would you do something similar on a machine running CentOS 5.11?
Cheers,
Niki

How to Networking Bridge?

What I know:

Have you tried swapping the HWADDR lines in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1 ?
No idea if will work ...

Possible to have EthX acting like the ipaddress of the attached device (aka bridge) having no ipaddress?
Hi
I have a Centos 6.X router/firewall/gateway for a /29 network all connected to one ETHX that has a switch behind it.
This setup works very well but does NOT allow me to QOS one of the devices (a VOIP phone, many lines) as for "tc" to work I need a device, not ipaddress.
I thought to connect the VOIP phone directly to the router, but in doing so I need that interface to ACT...

KVM: Can vlan created in hypervisor and one created inside a VM coexist?
Hi,
Let's say an interface ethX exists.
I created vlan on ethX on hypervisor - ethX.h.
I also created vlan on same ethX inside VM - exthX.v.
Can both ethX.h and ethX.v coexist? - Meaning can both of these interfaces pingable at same time?
Thanks,
Sucheta.

Virtualization Networking
...ridge id STP enabled interfaces
OK, so you don't have a bridge interface. If you want to access guest
VMs from the LAN, you need to set one up. Refer to the documentation I
sent earlier. You'll create a bridge interface configuration, and the
move the IP configuration from whichever ethX device you want to enslave
to the bridge. The ethX configuration file, then, won't have any IP
configuration specified, instead it'll contain "BRIDGE=br0".

[Bridge] how to silence the "br0: port X(ethX) doing something" messages?
Greetings,
I'm just wondering how one can make the bridging tools stop spamming the virtual
consoles? I would rather have all those "entering forwarding state", "entering
learning state" and "entering disabled state" messages go to a log than have
them plastered all over whichever console I happened to be logged into to work.
Thanks!
