hello and aoe booting
hi to the list, Hello everyone, I am new in the world of pxe booting and i try to use AOE to boot my linux debian lenny machines. unpredictable Xen crash w NetBSD 5.0.2(XEN3PAE_DOMU)
Dear all: I''m sorry I crossmail. If you''re talking about domU, then it''s normal. Whatever the block device is on dom0 (/dev/etherd/*, /dev/mapper/*, etc.) domU sees only /dev/xvda (or whatever you tell it to be). > $virsh attach-device i-484...

Private Interconnect and self fencing
I have an OCFS2 filesystem on a coraid AOE device. It mounts fine, but with heavy I/O the server self fences claiming a write timeout: (16,2):o2hb_write_timeout:164 ERROR: Heartbeat write timeout to device etherd/e0.1p1 after 12000 milliseconds (16,2):o2hb_stop_all_regions:1789 ERROR: stopping heartbeat on all active regions. Kernel panic - not syncing: ocfs2 is very sorry to be fencing this system by panicing It is my understanding that OCFS is expecting that the only heartbeat available to be on disk...

VM node won't talk to host
...other nodes already have the drive mounted. I have checked and rechecked all the settings, the cluster.conf is the same on all nodes, the drive haa the same uuid and the same label. The only thing that is different is the actual device name. On the host servers it is the AOE device '/dev/etherd/e0.1p11', on the VM the '/dev/etherd/e0.1' device is mapped to '/dev/sdb' so the OCFS2 partition shows up as '/dev/sdb11' The only thing I can think of is that the device names have to be the same between all hosts, but that really doesn't make any sense to me. AOE (Ata over ethernet) troubles on xen 2.0.6
...etools are not necessary, but nice. vblade lets you export a block device to the network. I exported an lvm device (worked fine on non xen machine) with: vblade 2 0 eth0 (2 is shelf number and 0 is slot number -- can be anything). If I export from non-xen, it shows up on other machines as /dev/etherd/e2.0, but the xen machine can''t see it when others export either. (Note, vblades from your own machine don''t show up in your /dev/etherd/ -- only on other hosts) As this is dom0, I''m not sure why the aoe module is not seeing the packets (unless the bridge is messing...

Xvd Problem
We recently added a disk to our Coraid SAN. We''ve used tons of devices off of this SAN with Xen before, but this time we experienced some weird behavior. I configured a DomU to have the device directly offered as a disk (i.e. ''phy/dev/etherd/e1.1,sdb1,rw''). When I tried to boot it, an xvd process showed up as usual. However, it consumed 100% processor usage and the domain never started. I also couldn''t kill it without rebooting the machine. The only thing about this device (that I can tell) is that it has a...

dom0 crash while booting from AOE devices
...crash is in xenolinux kernel. Also this crash is predictably reproducible. I am currently using xen 3.0.1, but I have seen the same thing happening in 3.0.2 some time back. If time permits I can try to reproduce it on latest Xen builds. The domU''s disks look like this: ''phy:/dev/etherd/e0.4,sda1,w'' ''phy:/dev/etherd/e1.4,sda2,w'' Inside the domU, sda1 is treated as root device and sda2 is treated as swap. The AOE setup involves, vblade servers running on the server machine that exports some disks over AOE. The dom0 instance in question is a client to t...

1/2 OFF-TOPIC: How to use CLVM (on top AoE vblades) instead just plain LVM for Xen based VMs on Debian 5.0?

On dom0 hypervisor01: vblade-persist setup 0 0 eth1 /dev/sda3 vblade-persist start all How to create a CVLM VG with /dev/etherd/e0.0 on each of my dom0s? Including the hypervisor01! I do not want to use GFS2/OCFS2 on top of CLVM, since I just want to provide live-motion. I''ll never try to setup two simultaneous domUs accessing the same CVLMs logical volumes. If someone can help me I will appreciate! This look...

Live Migration... shortest path
In a prior message I documented my woes in getting an NFS_ROOT xen going. I haven''t resolved those yet, want to try a different tack at this: If the group were to recommend a path of least resistance to showing migration/live migration, which configuration would it be? lenny amd64 and xen.
I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now. I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start. It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel. Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore? Any solution?
