Bug#222240: Ask for frequency during install (logcheck)
hello,
the debconf configuration of logcheck was removed since woody release:
as logcheck's user base is targeting server admins,
we don't see the need of a debconf based question regarding the
frequency of logcheck. beside once per day is a good default.
a note was added to documentation README.Debian that this value
may be changed in /etc/cron.d/logcheck.
so these bugreports will be

Bug#586729: Xen boot error: ERROR: Unable to locate IOAPIC for GSI
Hi Russell,
Was there an underlying issue here (e.g. failure to boot or crash?) or
were you just concerned by the messages?
Are you able to test if this still happens with the 4.1 based hypervisor
in Wheezy?
Ian.

Bug#503046: xen-utils-3.2-1: inadequate error handling for the case of a failure to use a loopback device
Package: xen-utils-3.2-1
Version: 3.2.1-2
Severity: normal
When a DomU is defined as using a file: device the loopback driver will
be used to make it appear to be a regular block device. The loopback
driver will by default only support 8 nodes so this is a limited
resource.
http://etbe.coker.com.au/2008/10/22/kernel-issues-with-debian-xen-and-centos-kernels/
If there is a problem that prevents correctly allocating the block
device (see the above URL for a description of how I encountered it when
using a CentOS kernel) then it will not free the loop device. When the
domain is d...

Bug#799986: xen-utils-common: please create /var/run/xen-hotplug from an init script
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.4.1-9+deb8u1
Severity: normal
With SE Linux it's desirable to give utilities and daemons the minimum
privileges.
That includes not permitting general utilities to create directories under
/var/run.
I think it would be best if /var/run/xen-hotplug was created by an init script
such
as /etc/init.d/xen (or by systemd-tmpfiles when using systemd units).

Module Versioning
Suppose...:
- For non-releases: "git" + We take the first 6 chars of git commit
- For releases: "ver" + major + "." + minor
- For tar-balls: Something clever, maybe involving the date
...that we embed such a version in Syslinux core and in all OS programs
and modules. Maybe even with some nearby magic so that a "whichver"
command can examine and answer.

Xen XCP - How to make WLB work?
I have installed XCP on a series of server and we have managed to install
XenCenter to manage them, but when it comes to WLB and HA - it seems that
the opensource XCP does not have the ability of doing WLB and HA.
Then I see also there is a web software named: Xen Cloud Control, but to be
frank I have not been able to even add a user - the uncgi program either is
not working properly or the

Best Practice - Partition, or not?
Hello
If I want to manage a complete disk with btrfs, what''s the "Best Practice"?
Would it be best to create the btrfs filesystem on "/dev/sdb", or would it be
better to create just one partition from start to end and then do "mkfs.btrfs
/dev/sdb1"?
Would the same recomendation hold true, if we''re talking about huge disks,
like 4TB or so?

duqu
There's an article on slashdot about the Duqu team wiping all their
intermediary c&c servers on 20 Oct. Interestingly, the report says that
they were all (?) not only linux, but CentOS. There's a suggestion of a
zero-day exploit in openssh-4.3, but both the original article, and
Kaspersky labs (who have a *very* interesting post of the story) consider
that highly unlikely, and the

ntpd under Xen Dom0 exhibits extremely high jitter/noise? runs stable/quiet under non-xen kernel.
On a selection of boxes, ntpd running in Xen Dom0 reproducibly
exhibits extermely high noise/jitter.
Switching back to -default, non-xen kernel ntpd runs with very low jitter/noise.
Question -- how can I ''tame'' ntpd noise & jitter when running in Dom0?
Is the problem a config issue, or a bug?
Already reported this downstream; everybody''s "stumped".

Toshiba T1910 (CS) - 'Boot failed'
Hi Everyone,
When I installed Debian Potato onto a Toshiba Satellite T1910CS
about a year and half ago using SYSLINUX everything went well. Now,
however, using SYSLINUX that comes with the bootdisk of Debian Woody
boot-up stops soon after the floppy is read with a 'Boot failed'
message.
I've received one email from someone having this trouble about six
months ago and I simply
