Power Down ESXi before SAN
I have 2 APC UPS systems, one is connected to my ESXi host and the other to my FreeNAS. The battery for the FreeNAS will run out before the battery for the ESXi, so I need ESXi to shutdown first. If I wait until BatteryLow on ESXI, it will be too late as FreeNAS will have already shutdown. How can I change the configuration on ESXI to shutdown a...

Help with VMware ESXi manager for CentOS - newbie level
Hi. On my new job we use VMware ESXi (Free version), but my colleagues use Windows on their PC's. I am allowed to use CentOS Linux, but I have no prior experience with WMVare. I now (today) have to install CentOS 6.x minimal on that ESXi server, so I am trying to wrap my head around whole ecosystem. What should I install on...

Install nested ESXi 6.x host under CentOS 7 kvm host
Hi all, I am trying to install nested Esxi 6.x under a Centos7 kvm host to use it as test lab for new ESXi versions, but I am doing something wrong because I can't install it. I have configured kvm and kvm_intel modules with the following options: options kvm ignore_msrs=1 options kvm_intel nested=1 ept=1 and I add the following op...

[PATCH] v2v: copy-to-local: Remove references to using this tool for ESXi.
virt-v2v is capable of accessing ESXi hypervisors now. There is only one remaining use of this tool - when converting from Xen hypervisors over ssh which are using host block devices for storage. --- v2v/virt-v2v-copy-to-local.pod | 27 ++------------------------- 1 file changed, 2 insertions(+), 25 deletions(-) diff --git a/v2v/vir...

How to connect to a remote VM ESXi server with Python language?
Hi, Dear Mr/Mrs. I have trouble in connecting to a VM ESXi server with python. I am a developer using libvirt to control remote VM ESXi with python language. But I am not able to connect to a remote VM ESXi server. I make my try to solve this issue: 1: I use the function libvirt.Open() to open the remote VM ESXi Server, but I don't know how to input...

NUT configuration with APC CS650 and ESXi host
Hello, I have decided to upgrade my home server by turning it into an ESXi host and have also added an APC CS650 UPS. My plan was to have NUT version 2.6.4 running in a Debian 7.7.0 virtual machine, NUT installed using apt. I configured NUT to run as a netserver, installed the ESXi nut .vib, configured the shutdowncmd in the VM to do nothing, so that the ESXi host would c...

chain loading Syslinux 3.86 from 6.04
Thanks. That gets me further. Syslinux 4.07 loads from Syslinux 6.04 now. For some reason though it reread D:\syslinux.cfg instead of D:\ESXi\syslinux.cfg . I don't see the directive that tells Syslinux(4) to look in the sub directory for syslinux.cfg instead of the root. The only thing (right now) I can see that is different, is my D:\syslinux.cfg is one file while yours loads other files to make the menu. On Tue, May 12, 2020 at...

VMWare ESXi & CentOS5.4
I have a brand new Dell Poweredge T310 server with 4G ram and 1TB raid-5 hard drive in it. I Really only need to be able to run a copy of CentOS 5.4 on it, but I'm wondering if in the build process should I stick on ESXi 4 and then run CentOS as a vm? This would give me the options to roll out other VM's if I want over the life of the server (which I likely won't need) but the convenience of having them might be there. I'm only thinking of doing this because ESXi is free, and won't add any cost to...

Virt-v2v
Usual prologue: we're testing on CentOS 5.5, RHEL subscriptions purchased. Now trying to use virt-v2v to transfer Win2008 Server guest from ESXi host to KVM host. Have enabled SSH on ESXi host, and can connect using esx+ssh://esxhost, but procedure fails because nc isn't found on ESXi. Fair enough. BTW, ESXi looks like a radically cut down RH system (/etc/sysconfig being the give-away)? So, using esx:// connection method which presuma...

So basically RHEL acts as our host and using KVM we deploy guests on this system. We have all along tested and shipped our application image for VMware ESXi installations , So this it the first time we are trying our application image on a KVM hypervisor. On this front i have done some tests to find out how our application's response time is when deployed on KVM and then compare it with a VM deployed on VMware ESXi. We have a benchmark test tha...

conference call stuttering / clocking issue (?) - ESXi virtual environment
Title says it all - for the time being I am stuck deploying Asterisk in ESXi . We are also looking at Proxmox for our next round of servers.. Everything works fine except conference calls - very stuttery , have tried a few different codecs. I assume this is a granular clocking issue , and wondering if anyone has anything I could try to fix or mitigate the problem in ESXi...

mboot.c32, NUMA and tgz
Hi all, I'm attempting to PXE boot ESXi, which uses the syslinux mboot.c32 module. The mboot.c32 included with ESXi seems to be an older version that runs into an "out of memory loading.." problem halfway through, even though the box has 8GB memory. This may be related to NUMA, since it works fine on an older box but not the ne...
