ESFQ: request for user input
Hello, I haven''t been keeping up with sending ESFQ [ANNOUNCE] messages to this list, but I''ve still been working on the patch. If you''re curious about recent changes, take a look at the home page, ChangeLog, and README: http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/ http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/current/ChangeLog http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/current/REA...

for testing/examiniation: updated esfq patch for 2.6.4
Since I admin the gateway for a network of bandwidth-greedy machines, I figured that esfq with "hash src" would be a more fair allocation of bandwidth than sfq. Unfortunately, there didn''t seem to be a recent patch for 2.6, so I endeavored to build one. The three patches I made (described below) are available within the attached tar.bz2 or at: http://fatooh.org/esfq-2...

esfq ? or wrr ?
Hi If I have a HTB class with 128kbit, and I want to put "N" users in that class ( in order to share bandwidth fairly ) , which is better for me ? esfq (hash dst) or wrr ? I would attach esfq or wrr to HTB parent class. Also I''ve readed on Jim script that over WRR put a RED qdisc, but I don''t understand it. bests andres

[ANNOUNCE] ESFQ for Linux 2.6.12-rc1
http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/ http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/esfq-2.6.12-rc1.tar.gz This version no longer interferes with the original SFQ; unlike previous versions, you can still use an unpatched tc with SFQ. Patching tc is still needed for ESFQ, though. I''ve tested this patch with Linux 2.6.11 as well. Please tel...

Is ESFQ working?
...or a college dorms... INTERNET---- ETH0--------Nat Box-------ETH1--------LAN I have set up classes of traffic (HTTP, FTP, MAIL, IM, OTHER) and i have assigned a rate for everyone with a HTB qdisc. The limit based in traffic is working flawlessly. However, under every HTB class i have set up a ESFQ queue discipline with hash value set to ''dst'' int eth1 to control the rate of download of every user, but it appears to do nothing. and in eth0 there is a prio handler According to documentation, every user should get a fair amount of bandwidth but currently, users with some...

ESFQ not so fair?
Hello! I am using since yesterday ESFQ instead of N HTB queues. It mostly works OK, but when somebody is using one single sesion (for example downloading file via FTP), it gets weird speed. For example it is 20 kilobytes pres second, then drops down to 9, then 20 again, and then slowly to 0 and stops. But when using download acceler...

esfq hash type
Hi I have a small lan (10.0.0.0/8) behind my linux box. I use MASQUERADE to allow users connects to internet. I set up an esfq qdisc for outgoing traffic. And there is a little question. Does source hash type in esfq recognize NATed local ip''s? -- Pozdrawiam Marcin mailto:slacklist@op.pl _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://...

[ANNOUNCE] ESFQ for Linux 2.6.19.2 (with jhash!)
ESFQ''s original hashing algorithm never worked particularly well for the src or dst hash types: close IP addresses, such as 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 often hashed to the same number, even with many different perturbation values. This prevented the src and dst hash types from working adequately with...

[ANNOUNCE] ESFQ for Linux 2.6.13
In a recent thread on this list, Robert Kurjata provided me a patch to add hashing by iptables mark to the Linux 2.4 version of ESFQ. Thanks to that contribution, I was able to easily add support to the 2.6 port I maintain. I found out, however, that the existing hash algorithm results in a lot of colllisions when the range of hashed values is small. The purturbation spreads the collisions out a little, but the result still was...

Where to get working esfq hash src ip?
...and both are 10Mbit/s. The slow part of the network is little bit more far. On their QoS we have 2Mbit and I want all our users to divide this bandwidth equally but also don''t want to unnecessarily restrain their bandwith and to have free bandwith elsewhere at the same time. In my opinion esfq is right choice but I don''t if it has any effect on router that has two 10Mbit/s interfaces that cannot be fully used because of that restriction on ISP''s side. Anyway, should I use esfq dst on LAN interface and esfq src on Internet interface? Where can I get the latest versio...

ESFQ patch problem
I applied esfq patch to kernel then I have applied iproute2-2.2.4-now-ss001007-esfq.diff to patch iproute2 (tc utility, iproute2-ss010824) source: http://www.ssi.bg/~alex/esfq/ But whenever I try to add esfq qdisc with parameter it says it donot know the qdisc i.e esfq. tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent...

ESFQ updates
Hi. On Mar 12, Corey Hickey posted here(http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2004q1/012038.html) an updated esfq patch for kernel 2.6. Has anyone backported it to kernel 2.4 ? Original esfq patch is not being kept in sync with kernel sfq, it seems. What people have been using with esfq and kernel 2.4.25, the original 2002 esfq patch ? esfq testing !
Hi, I''m have a linux router like this: ADSL modem-->(eth0) Linux Router (eth1)<--->LAN (6 hosts) Since I want to apply fairness to 6 hosts LAN, I have compiled kernel 2.4.20-8 with patch esfq 0.2 (and iproute2 with patch esfq too.) Next, I run folow script: -------------------------------------------- #!/usr/bin TC="/sbin/tc" $TC qdisc del dev eth1 root 2> /dev/null > /dev/null $TC qdisc add dev eth1 root handle 1:0 esfq perturb 0 hash dst $TC class show dev eth1 $...

Help with traffic control (HTB ESFQ RED)
...have a p2p server here (running mldonkey), since only that machine is serving p2p and anyone can connect to it to download linux distros ( :) ) my attemp here was to limit bandwidth for that machine. I''ve partially done this, I''ve written some HTB rules and I''ve nested ESFQ leafs within htb classes. At first it seems like it works, but then two problems arise: 1) Web latency (partially solved by increasing burst size, but still happens) and 2) download seems affected a lot in the p2p server. I believe HTB is doing it''s work, but the one that is fai...

IFB & ESFQ
Hello Tom, Sorry, please but i again return to IFB question. If i correct understand in current situation IFB haven't profit from ESFQ in common cases (i mean internal networks masquarading) so as we wait from ESFQ allocates bandwidth fairly per source IP(internal) but IFB don't know internal IPs. If i correct, what do you think what can help IFB to solve its main disadvantage (don't see internal IPs)? Thank you,...

HTB + ESFQ in nat router for shape incoming by ip
...said, when somebody in the lan uses the tipical download accelerator, the line is out because the bandwidth is divided by conexions. So, i decided to use htb (with one class, filter and iptables mark per ip) for shaping an ceil traffic if it isnĀ“t in use. All ok. Now i need to shape by ip, so i use esfq... but nothing happend. A few lines of my script can be read here: (Only for 2 ips, there are a lot of them, but i do the test with two machines, one with daccelerator an other with simple download). $tc qdisc add dev eth1 root handle 2:0 htb default 20 $tc class add dev eth1 parent 2:0 classi...

doubt about esfq
In esfq README i have: Depth sets the number of slots. If the number of active flows is greater than the number of slots, flows will end up sharing slots and ESFQ will no longer be fair. If you anticipate more than 128 concurrently active flows, you should use a larger depth and probably a larger...
