how do export a block device via eSATA?
Does any one know how to, if at all possible currently, to export a block device via eSATA? i.e. how do I do something like iSCSI, but over eSATA? I have a cheat ($15 probably?) media player at home (Egreat EG-M31B Network Media Tank - awesome little machine) that runs some flavor of Debian and can be connected to any PC via eSATA as an external HDD's. i.e. it exports the built-in...

Any experience with eSATA and port multiplier...?
Hey, just bought an eSATA/USB dual drive docking station and my CentOS 5 can only see one drive at a time... Any one knows if there are specific parameters to set somewhere? Or do I need a more recent kernel (like upgrading to CentOS 6?) The docking is a Sharkoon Quickport Duo v2 + 2 drives + 1 eSATA cable... http://www.sh...

HotPlug, eSATA, and /media
Ok, got a quickie. I have an eSATA drive, a 750GB Seagate in an eSATA external enclosure, and a Silicon Image sil3132 ExpressCard controller for my laptop. The disk and controller work great in CentOS 5 (or F7, for that matter), if I specifically mount it. This is not how I want to have to use this drive, however. I want to ho...

eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?
HI All, I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice 1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS. or 2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box? I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music, etc, etc Can I get thoughts for ideas for solutions? Thank You -Jason

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
...sue, but I also want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID controllers). One product that seems to fit the bill is the StarTech.com S352U2RER, an external dual SATA disk enclosure with USB and eSATA connectivity (I''d be using the USB port). Here''s a link to the specific product I''m considering: http://ca.startech.com/product/S352U2RER-35in-eSATA-USB-Dual-SATA-Hot-Swap-External-RAID-Hard-Drive-Enclosure The intent would be put two 1TB or 2TB drives in the enclosure...

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if

CentOS 6, mini-SAS and eSATA
We've got this Dell server. In it, we've got two LSI HBAs. Mini-SAS to one RAID box. The other, cheapo RAID box, has eSATA. We got a mini-SAS-to-eSATA cable - actually, it's one mini-SAS to three eSATA. The systems sees not those disks. Will this just not work, with the HBA, or is there a driver that will let the what, mpt2SAS driver see the eSATA drives? mark

USB-3.0 on C6.5 ??
Just wondering if there are any known issues with USB 3.0 storage devices in Centos 6.5?? I just got one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332028 it does either esata or USB 3.0. My new motherboard (ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0) supports both, so I've tried both (of course, can't have a feature without at least giving it a whirl! :)). esata seems to work fine, I can copy gigs 'n gigs of data to it using the esata connection. however, with USB3 it works for...

External eSata ZFS raid possible?
Is this possible? I want an external case with 4 HD in, each having an individual eSata cable. I plug in this case only when needed (each HD plugs into my PC separately), and do something like ">import ZFS pool" and use my ZFS raid. When done, I unplug it with ">export ZFS pool" or something similar command. This way I save energy, less noise, etc. I want it...

Assign external esata drive to KVM
Hello Everyone, I have a CentOS 6.3 host running a few KVMs. One of them is a CentOS 6.3 KVM that I want to use for making backups with BackupPC. What I'm having a problem with is assigning the KVM an external drive. I used to run BackupPC on an Ubuntu box. The backups went to an external eSATA 1.5TB, ext4 format, single partition drive (regular 3.5" in an enclosure). I want to now attach that same external drive to my KVM host, and pass it up to the KVM running BackupPC. I added the entire drive as a second storage disk to the KVM. I used the disk's label (/dev/disk/by-label/b...

'diskinfo' problem with eSATA device (initio 1611)
.../www.sharkoon.com/html/produkte/externe_gehaeuse/sata_quickport_pro/index_en.html) I can read/write to inserted disks, also smartctl works, but my favourite test doesn't run: diskinfo -t /dev/ad10 returns: ioctl(DIOCGMEDIASIZE) failed, probably not a disk.: Inappropriate ioctl for device The eSATA bridge is a initio 1611 chip. I have another external SATA enclosure and there is the same problem. Any ideas what the reason is and how to "fix"? CentOS 5.5 x64, HP ProLiant Microserver and eSATA
Hello all. Not sure how many people here also frequent the CentOS forums, so apologies for the 'cross post'. I know some here are using CentOS on HP's ProLiant Microserver, so if anyone's tried eSATA on their box, please let me know. Perhaps best to reply over at the forum - https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=31558&forum=39 Thanks Andy

Centos backup tools
Hi all! I'm building a raid box to use for backups, connectivity will be either USB3 or esata. Looking for suggestions on backup software I can use. I know there's rsync, which may be a good solution. I also find backupPC at epel, backintime also at epel, kbackup. DejaDup looks interesting, but none of the repos I'm set up to use shows it being available. some small details: I p...

Controlling the order of /dev/sdX devices?
Hi CentOS 5.4(final) 2.6.18-164el5PAE. I am trying to prevent removable USB and eSATA devices from occupying /dev/sdX devices ahead of a 3ware RAID controller. For example: at boot, if a USB drive and eSATA HDD (connected to an LSI 1068E onboard controller, reflashed in "IT" mode to handle hotplug devices) were both present, they would occupy devices /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc...
