newbie questions re flac on win32 eac and id3v2
Firstly, a big thank-you to Josh for FLAC. Someone mentioned it in a post on
Slashdot, so I came over to sourceforge for a look-see. This is just the
sort of thing I've been looking for.
Can anyone relate any general tips for using flac on Windows for the purpose
of archiving cd's? If I can nail down a solid, easy-to-use process, I'm
happy to write it up and contribute it to the

winamp plug-in enhancement/bugfix
josh,
thanks for the feedback. now i can start encoding like mad knowing that the
generated flac files are ok =)
(flac -t said the files were ok, despite metaflac's complaints).
i noticed that without the flac-for-winamp plug-in installed, winamp
correctly displays the id3 filename (e.g. "Bjork - Human Behavior") in the
playlist and also displays the id3 tags in the file

best way to ensure integrity of flac source files?
if there was a flac-users list i'd be asking these questions there, but
anyway =)
on windows, i've been using eac in secure mode and using "test & copy" to
verify that the crc checksums match. invariably, i'll get one or two
mismatches per album i rip, so i figure the checksum verification is a good
thing despite the extra time. once i rip a cd, i want to forget

process for petitioning for more flac hardware support
i was wondering how one would go about approaching hardware manufacturers to
support flac.
i get the sense that in the case of phatnoise, one of their devs already
knew about flac and took the initiative (although if this isn't the case,
please correct me).
but how would you go about asking say, apple, to add flac support to the
ipod? the ipod can already play a number of formats,

yes this would be my concern as well. also, individual track support is just
more flexible for moving music around between devices.
it's funny, i've been on-and-off trying to get the whole

tagging flac files
this is a little off-topic, but i want to get a sense of "best practices"
for tagging flac files.
i want to archive my entire cd collection as flac files (onto a few of those
new western digital 120GB drives). as part of encoding the flac files, i'd
like to add
1. id3v2 tags (preferably automatically gotten from freedb)
2. timed lyrics a la lyrics3 v2 (is there a freedb-like

Phatbox (was: Re: slow FLAC__file_decoder_seek_absolute()...)
brendan,
you are the bomb =)
i have soooooo been waiting for something like phatbox to support flac.
thank-you thank-you. ack. i think i need a new head unit (just looked at the
compatibility section). and i think josh does *cough* need a free demo unit
for umm, testing...
