description method and test failures
...s that this method is clashing with one of the methods in rspec. Is there a workaround for this situation? It''s a pain to have to rename my method everytime I want to see a proper failure message from rspec. I''m attaching a full backtrace run with --trace. render_to_string in a controller test?
...he rendered output. This prevents me from testing the output of render_to_string in the controller spec. I can work around the issue by using integrate_views, and I guess that''s fine, but shouldn''t render_to_string really work in controllers? Thanks for your input, e. -- ericw at xmtp.net "If the answer isn''t violence, neither is your silence!" -- Pop Will Eat Itself, "Ich Bin Ein Auslander"

And of course there's always the old standby in /etc/passwd (obviously change the account name) secretshutdown:x:0:0:root:/root:/sbin/shutdown And it presupposes that root logins are allowed (which is asking for trouble). >>>Ericw

Bad mime type reported for flac file
...this is an MP3. I don't tag my FLAC files, so I do not know what to suggest. Perhaps there are some clues in the FLAC documentation on what are proper tag formats. All I can remember is that MP3/ID3 tags are not really legal. Brian Willoughby Sound Consulting On Dec 4, 2008, at 13:07, ericw at xmtp.net wrote: It has recently come to my attention that the linux "file" utility reports some (but not all) of my flac files as having a mime type of "audio/mpeg". Obviously this is incorrect, but why is it reported as such? This led me to wonder if it was the tags..? Si...

Feature request
Hepp! I am sitting in a remote country trying to reboot my server at home. Services are running, but the filesystem seems to be unreachable. I can ssh into the system, but when entering interactive mode, nothing happens and the session is terminated. Then I thought - what if sshd had builtins like bash, so that i could send a "reboot" command to the ssh daemon instead "ssh system

managing users from smbpasswd rather than /etc/passwd
I have samba installed on a web server (behind a firewall). It's working fine with all the WINS networking here (eg, password authentication from the NT servers, etc). I (we) want this web server - a linux redhat 5.x box currently running samba-1.9.18p8 - to have as few actual unix login accounts as possible. What I want/need to do is to allow LOTS of people in the faculty here
