GLMM, ML, PQL, lmer
Dear R community, I have two questions regarding fitting GLMM using maximum likelihood method. The first one arises from trying repeat an analysis in the Breslow and Clayton 1993 JASA paper. Model 3 of the epileptic dataset has two random effects, one subject specific, and one observation specific. Thus if we count random effects, there are more parameters than observations. When I try to run the following code, I get an error saying: "Error in mer_finalize(ans) : q = 295 > n = 236". require (lme...

I can almost feel Civilization 3 running
...he rest of the DLLs that the default installation names are builtin, native. I've tried running it with 'winedbg --gdb civilization3', and it always hangs when it tries to start sound (Now would be a good time to mention that the sound when I run in Win98 sounds like it's having an epileptic seizure). It starts out loading ntdll, kernel32, advapi, gdi32, user32, crtdll, glu32, dciman32, opengl32, winmm, shlwapi, comctl32, shell32, comdlg32, and x11drv, in that order, all from C:\windows\system, without errors beyond complaining about not having a .dbg file available. Then it gets a GD...

Need help on the Lasso cox model with discrete time
Hi everyone, We have been trying to construct a Lasso-cox model with discrete time. We conducted follow-up examinations on the epileptic attack after tumor surgical resection among glioma patients. The patients are followed-up in the 6/12/24 months after surgical resection, which makes the epilepsy-free time discrete (6/12/24 months). We calcluated many features from the T2-images collected prior to surgical resection. We aimed...

IPv6 broken on Linode
...ger fan of KISS with simple key=value configuration files that don't seem to exist anymore with Linux networking in the Red Hat world. Making things more complex to benefit "Cloud" servers it the worst thing Red Hat ever did. Sorry for the tone, I'm quite frustrated and as an epileptic who doesn't drive, driving down to the SF Bay Area for RHCE classes that won't even be applicable in a few years when they change stuff again isn't really an option. Been using Red Hat since MKLinux DR3 (based on Red Hat 5.1) and been through the training courses before and everyth...
