/proc process information on centos 4.1
Is there a way to tell through /proc or something else which files a process has open and more importantly what position the read pointer is in for that open file? As an example if I am reading a file with a program I have no control over, and I kill that program, I need to know when in the data file that program was reading at that time. Is this information available and if so how to read it?

LM_SENSORS
Sorry if this has been around many times before, but I've done quite a bit of reading and searching for some type of human readable guide for setting up the lm_sensors for hardware monitoring. I've dorked around with the stuff in the system here, but after looking at the /etc/sensors.conf, I don't think I want to delve into that and try to pull out the right group of settings.

USB ethernet driver?
Hi, I have a new networking card for my laptop: Linksys USBVPN1. It's a USB networking with a build-in firewall. I have CentOS 4.1 with the latest yum update. When I plug it in, CentOS does not even recognize it. I have check, /var/log/messages and nothing in the dmesg. Layer 1 works, I do have proper link connection, the correct lights come up both on the switch and on the USBVPN1. Any

Update 4.2 broke LVM
I upgrade using YUM my CentOS 4 system the other night. I was noticing that X wasn't coming up because of a gdk_thread issue (actually, the window manager wasn't starting. I cold get X to start from the command line). Surprised that it took 587MB of downloads, since I was current as of September 29th. When rebooting, I was forced to the login prompt, because my LVM group with

DoS Attack
Yesterday, I had a DoS attack on a php/mysql webpage which uses a lot of resources. I have learned today, as a for instance, in the last hour, about 3000 requests for that page were made by 610 different servers, mostly from 'odd' places... China, Russia, Poland, Turkey... the usual suspects from my experience. The bottom line is this... I hit server loads of 142 yesterday!!! And the

I've created a symlink inside my /var/www/html/ folder called "web", which is points to a my /home/dave/web directory. Inside that directory, I created a folder for my web site called "website". I thought I should be able to access that web site through FireFox by going to either: httpd://localhost/web/website ... or: http://localhost/web/website ... but I just get
