Make a function work on an environemnt
In my R learning I've come across a situation in which a piece of code that works on the work space outside a function does not work inside the function. WARNING THIS EMAIL CONTAINES THE CODE:#rm(list=ls()) THIS WILL CLEAR ALL OBJECTS FROM YOUR WORKSPACE! When I use rm(list=ls()) and then ls() it shows character(0) So I tried to make a quick function to speed this up as follows:

change language at console
Hi all,I am a linux R user and my default R environemnt (after writing R in linux console) returns the error messages in German (I am not the system adminitstrator and I can not change system settings). I know that the English package is also installed so I guess I need to set some environmental variable for this.Any idea how I am doing that? RegardsAlex [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Watch a file during the day and just report changes, replace on a scheduleat night if chnged during the day: needs to be a type?
Hi, In our dev/int environemnts, our user base wants to be able to change managed files at will during the day but be notified via email of changes that happen. At night they want the files replaced to their known good state if there were changed. I tried to do this with a custom function that wraps two file types, one that jus...

'yum update' rollback or .. ?
Hello, we have several physical servers (CentOS 5.*) with rather critical applications where (because of stability) we don't do regularly 'yum update'. In virtualized environemnts (under Vmware) we do a snapshot, then 'yum update', reboot and if something is wrong we rollback the snapshot. On physical servers we cannot do that. I have read about rollback option of rpm but not sure if this is reliable solution. What is your best practise regarding "rollbacking&qu...

Plugin "lazy_expunge" and subfolder
Hi Timo, hi all, we want to use the "lazy_expunge" plugin (from dovecot 2.1.10) and had configured it in a test environemnt like described in "http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Lazyexpunge" (1 namespace) There are some subfolders from "INBOX" (like "INBOX/SPAM") in a "maildir++" configuration. All actions on first level directories

reason for bad performance on i915 (AIGLX)
Greetings everybody! For about two weeks I'm now a happy owner of an intel-powered laptop (chipset, wifi, gfx) and wanted to give it a full test-drive of compiz and other GL-intensive programs. The laptop runs Xorg 7.1.1 and the i810 driver that comes with it (stock rpm from FC6). I'm forced to start compiz 0.3.4 with these options... --use-cow --strict-binding --indirect-rendering

upgarde from rails 2.3.5 to rails 2.3.8
Hi I upgraded my rails application rails 2.3.8 from 2.3.5 like below gem install rails -v=2.3.8 Now in environemnt.rb RAILS_GEM_VERSION changed to ''2.3.8''. Now when I tried to a previous migration like rake db:migrate VERSION=20100714122104 I got warning like DEPRECATION WARNING: Rake tasks in vendor/plugins/delayed_job/tasks, vendor/plugins/paperclip/tasks,

a WARNING about cruise task or user-specified build task for Rails
If (like me) you use ccrb to test a Rails app and (like me) you define your own :cruise task, because, for example, you use rspec rather than Test::Unit and (like me) you have the RAILS_ENV ||= ''production'' line in environment.rb (because, like me, you use crummy shared hosting) Your build will run in production mode, possibly screwing up your production database,

Excessive NFS operations
Reading the "waiting IOs" thread made me remember I have a similar problem that has been here for months, and I have no sulution yet. A single CentOS 5.2 x86_64 machine here is overloading our NetApp filer with excessive NFS getattr, lookup and access operations. The weird thing is that the number of these operations increases over time. I have an mrtg graph (which I didn't

Really? What kind of downtime makes you loose emails? If your server is down, mail delivery is tried every couple of hours for days. So - if your server is down for a day or two, no

No fonts control on Cairo in batch mode
Dear all, I've sent this question to the r-help mailing list, but maybe it is better suited for the r-sig-debian mailing list, although this is not Debian (but still Linux): I am using Cairo version 1.4-5 for plotting R graphs on a Gentoo system that does not have X11 installed. I have full control on the fonts when running R in interactive mode. But when running R in batch mode I cannot

setting different environments
Hallo, I have a set of S4 and S3 classes together in one script. While running this script I create a lot of new functions and objects An example for S3 and S4 classes: ## S3 classes pt <- list(x=1,y=2) class(pt) <- "xypoint" xpos <- function(x, ...) UseMethod("xpos") xpos.xypoint <- function(x) x$x ypos <- function(x, ...) UseMethod("ypos")
