VCPU cores & sockets
Before I get to entrenched in the ACPI code - I thought I''d ping the community to make sure nobody else has investigated this already - Can we present cores vs sockets for guest VCPUs? Right now, the number of total processors can be specified, but can we specify cores per socket? I see this potentially being an...

Understanding glm family documentation: dev.resids
...lement dev.resids actually seems to compute the deviance residuals squared. I guess the help file could be changed to read: dev.resids function giving the square of the deviance residuals as a function of (y, mu, wt). ...but then, dev.resids still seems a misleading label, but that may so entrenched it will never changed. (By my definition, the square of the deviance residuals is not quite the unit deviance as the weights need to be incorporated differently, but others may disagree.) Of course, I could be way off track. I would appreciate enlightenment. P. Peter Dunn Biostatistician Sc...

bad bignum encoding for curve25519-sha256@libssh.org
...256 at libssh.org properly about 0.2% of the time (one in every 512ish connections). We've fixed this for OpenSSH 6.7 by avoiding the curve25519-sha256 key exchange for previous versions, but I'd recommend distributors of OpenSSH apply this patch so the affected code doesn't become too entrenched in LTS releases. The patch fixes the bug and makes OpenSSH identify itself as 6.6.1 so as to distinguish itself from the incorrect versions so the compatibility code to disable the affected KEX isn't activated. I've committed this on the 6.6 branch too. Apologies for the hassle. -d Ind...

Fwd: [videoblogging] Re: Fwd: Opera proposed Theora for native video playback in browsers
...Returning to Theora as a whole, my other issue is with hardware playback & recording support, and the chances of it being used on mobile phones etc. Its still too early to tell quite how big an issue these things are, has to catch on with the masses, but mpeg4 and friends are looking fairly entrenched on these platforms so far. ...assertingi the legitmacy of Fair Use. Like I said before, the recording industry is tiny compared to the internet industry, and they've all but killed online entertainment as we knew it. Even MP3.com and EMusic are now owned by universal. Ick. [fdo] Code of Conduct questions
...se norms, then by definition no behaviour can be bad: if you feel you're being excluded in a way which violates the code, you aren't. Specific enumerated counter-examples help make it clear what is and isn't acceptable, and prevents bad behaviour from being accidentally but irreversably entrenched. (Anyone who attempted to play rules lawyer and use technicalities to work their way out of the spirit of the CoC would not get a welcoming reception.) Personally, I'm also extremely uncomfortable with the parts making clear that 'roles and seniority' are paramount and must be acknowle...

Felipe --- It would appear that you are unaware that you are walking a minefield of entrenched positions and personality conflicts. For those like myself who are mystified by the positions taken in this thread, a partial back story may be helpful. In 2012, Han-Tak Leung reported a problem compiling the development version of R that he had checked out using git's svn compability feature...

Re: Slashdot: "Could Microsoft buy Red Hat?" -- this is a joke made by the clueless
...Sun. Why? Because it was in Microsoft's interest to do so. Ever since Microsoft lost the right to Java code, .NET has fallen behind in many areas. They merely relicensed Java, and began other initiatives. Largely as customers demanded interoperability. Same deal here. Red Hat products are now entrenched in everything from defense to financial. Most customers are now demanding more interoperability with Linux. Red Hat, due to their commercial marketshare, is going to be one of Microsoft's major targets. They already have some channels with Novell, but virtually _none_ with Red Hat. Red Hat is...

Question regarding significance of a covariate in a coxme survival
...So, the p-value and AIC are answering quite different questions, and thus should not be expected to give the same or even similar results. But, worse than that, many point out that p-values tend not to be answering ANY question of practical interest. It's a shame that the use of p-values is so entrenched. I can expand on this, with references, if there is interest. Norm Matloff Professor of Computer Science (formerly Statistics) University of California, Davis

...wondering if we all can form a sort of service network of professional for various solutions using open/mixed source. Any person/organisation with skills/knowledge on FLOSS/Hweterogenous/Others can be a member. We cannot ignore the "other"/"Proprietery" completely as they are entrenched in the various verticals. Please bear with me. I have dedicated last five years of my bread and butter earning career to FLOSS solutions but have difficulty in gaining traction in the enterprises working alone. Of course there are commercials involved. Which can be discussed threadbare. Perhaps a...
