row, col function but for a list (probably very easy question, cannot seem to find it though)
Hi guys,
I'm quite new to R but quite enthousiastic. I'm trying to rewrite a bit of
code in order to make it faster, so instead of nesting for loops I'm trying
some apply functions. Since it's a combination of lists of matrices and
other matrices, I would like to use lapply() on the list and still be able
to use the list index to index in the matrices.
So, in "code

Xen on mac mini?
Hello, I am new to Xen. Yesterday I have read about it in a Linux magazine
and got enthousiastic J
I am/was wondering whether I could use this software on my Intel Mac Mini to
run a couple of Ubuntu servers.
Does anyone has tried this yet?

ext3fs crash with lots of mmap/munmap/unlink activity
Hi all!
It seems the current ext3 code has some problems; my machine is running
2.4.6-ac1 with ext3-0.9 patches on top of it. This afternoon, I was doing
some testing of a little piece of code on my machine, and I was able to
crash it.
What this program does is, in effect something like (pseudo-code)
for(i=0; i<100; i++) {
fd=creat file-i
truncate fd, 50M
mmap fd
close fd

Construction to access Windows Network and other networks.
Hello,
Hello all,
I've been working on a construction to make access to networkresources easier,
using autofs.
The construction permits user access to networkresources like a Samba/Windows
server with cifs, FTP servers using curlftpfs and SSH using sshfs (fuse), in
one directory created with autofs. I'm sure more services like nfs and ipx are
possible, but I did not test that. (in

OfficeScan deletes Rterm as malware
I'm not sure if the problem is actually with R but thought I should
report this anyway.
After Peter's email regarding the R 3.5.2 release today, I installed the
Windows version right away (directly from CRAN and not from a mirror).
Unfortunately, my institute's AV sofware TrendMicro OfficeScan 12.0.5147
Service Pack 1 stops and deletes Rterm.exe when running Rcmd.exe INSTALL

disk image creation, step by step
Hi,
I am aware that it is impossible to netboot ISO files through
pxelinux/memdisk
and that there are multiple reasons for not even attempting it (like the
operating system which will try to access a physical optical drive
through its
own drivers anyway, BIOS issues etc.).
When people ask questions regarding ISO support in pxelinux/memdisk, they're
mostly told to convert the ISO into a

OGG decoding/multi-channel mixing
Hi All,
Currently I am investigating how interesting OGG is for me.
The most important requirements are:
- Decoding on embedded hardware, ARM7 or ARM9.
- Mixing multiple audio streams/files on embedded hardware
First of all how difficult is it to decode OGG on an ARM7/9 processor? I read that OGG decoding needs floating point support?
Secondly I would like to know how many MIPS are needed to

E5606 with no HVM; Assertion 'i == 1' failed at p2m-ept.c:524
Hi Xen developers and enthousiasts,
Recently I have been having a lot of problems with HVM hosts on a dual
Xeon E5606 box. Problem is that HVM hosts don''t work on it at all and
crash the server.
Today I got the logging to work over an IPMI console so then I compiled
a fresh xen-unstable. Apart from the message I posted in...

Rails Deployment Book
I''ve been mulling over an idea for a book covering Ruby on Rails
application deployment. Obvious topics include using Mongrel by itself
and with Apache/Lighttpd, load balancers, memcached, and Capistrano.
What other topics would you like to see covered in such a book?
Cheers,

Samba problem
Hi,
I have a problem connecting my Windows98 to the Samba server.
The Linux computer comes up in the "Network Neighborhood" control panel,
but when I double click on the icon, W98 asks for a password for the
"\\machine name\IPC$" resource.
But my password will not me accepted. I have logged in as user "root"
with
a given password on both computers.
When I set
