Playonline needs 32-bit true color
I installed playonline under WINE on Ubuntu. It installed without any problem, and when I went to load it up it even starts to open up like it would in windows. But then an error appeared: _______ Error Code = 20008027 Can only be displayed properly in 32-bit true color. Start Playonline viewer anyway? _______ If I click no, it closes. If I click yes it actually starts up, plays music, and I

Final Fantasy XIV Online Beta/Benchmark
Hi there Square Enix' new MMORPG is nearing its release and there are alpha/beta clients available. The beta does not work at all in wine, just weird network connection errors when it trys to connect to their servers. The official benchmark starts but 3D is not rendered, just a black screen. This is the console out...

FFXI Ultimate Collection: Abyssea Edition Install
I know the HowTo deals with installing FFXI from a DVD but I'm having problems installing this from an .exe downloaded from the Square Enix Store. Basically the installer runs, and I'm able to continue in the installer, then select the components to install (POL, FFXI and all 4 expansions). However, when I click Next, the Installer skips to the Install Completion window. Note that this does not actually install the games. Is there...

xen usage monitoring (munin plugin)
Dear list, as my Xen3 server is finaly becomming ready for production I was wondering if anyone has written a xen usage monitoring/logging tool? Something like xm top, but with continuose logging to a (rr)database. Or a munin plugin? I can''t remember seeing anything simmilar on the list. BTW: where does xm top get the NETTX(k) and NETRX(k) from? For a munin plugin I''d

mount r/w and r/o
I have an ext3 filesystem mounted r/w on 1 host and r/o on multiple hosts. Dangerous but cost effective. I recently implemented some protection through a fc switch that restricts some hosts to r/o access to the data luns. So if someone types mount -o rw or something, all is not lost. The issue occurs when it's mounted r/w on 1 host and another host attempts to mount it r/o. The mount

debian xen packages : work with 2.6.16, reboots when loading dom0 with 2.6.17
I was giving a try to Debian Xen packages (it looks very promising by the way ; I just happen to love the ? new ? grub which handles xen images, for instance!) ; I have a box which boots correctly with xen-hypervisor-3.0-i386_3.0.2+hg9697-2 and a 2.6.16 dom0 kernel, but crashes when trying to boot linux-image-2.6.17-2-xen-686_2.6.17-7 The result is the same on two boxen (my Pentium M laptop and a

a few questions about ext3 journal
A few wild ideas/questions : 1) Is there a way to check the size of the journal of an ext3 filesystem ? I mean - the actually used size ; not the total size of the journal. 2) Would it be difficult to implement "freeze" of ext3 filesystem - that is, blocking all I/O to the filesystem until it's "unfrozen" (XFS can do that), for two purposes : A/ allowing
