Samba PDC, v3.0.25b, tdbsam: winbindd seems to be broken...
...I use tdbsam, winbindd etc.
Winbind appears to be broken. When I do:
* getent passwd
none of the DOMAIN\xxxx users are listed
* getent group
the BUILTIN\administrators and BUILTIN\users groups are listed,
but none of the DOMAIN\xxxx groups
* wbinfo -u
gives an enigmatic "Error looking up domain users"
* wbinfo -g
gives just the BUILTIN\administrators and BUILTIN\users groups
I have wound up the logging, but have not been able to see anything
obviously related to the above...
...where do I start looking, please ??
Thanks,
Chris

Nut with Powercom iCute ICT-530U (USB)
...fine, as the windows version of their
UPS monitor instantly shows power surges and turns off the PC. I've sent
mail to the manufacturer but received no reply so far.
So, will nut work with this type of ups? In the compatibility list (
http://www.networkupstools.org/compat/stable.html) there is enigmatic
statement "various" in the Powercom section. Shall I have hope and download
the package or just lie down and cry? ;)

How can I improve an ugly, dumb hack
...s.
3. There may be many more columns which are vectors or matrix than
just the three in this little example.
I can easily and sensibly accomplish these 3 tasks, but the problem is
that I run afoul of data frame column naming procedures in doing so,
about which the data.frame Help page says rather enigmatically:
"How the names of the data frame are created is complex, and the rest
of this paragraph is only the basic story." Indeed!
(This, of course, is shorthand for "Go look at the source if you want
to know!" )
Anyway, AFAICT from the Help, any "simple" approach to c...

Antwort: Re: Crash with Unicode and sub (PR#14114)
...we use "fixed = TRUE", the result is strange
and differs for R-2.10.0 and R-2.10.1 RC. This is especially strange,
because in an unbugged R, the result of v returned from sub should be the
same either with fixed = TRUE or perl = TRUE.
R-2.10.0 pauses several seconds, then produces the enigmatic output:

setting value arg of pdSymm() in nlme
...1, data = data.df, random = list(batch =
pdSymm(value = batch.mat,

1: lme(response ~ 1, data = data.df, random = list(batch = pdSymm(value =
batch.mat,
form = ~1, nam = batch.names)))
---snip---
The length of batch.names is 3, so I find this error enigmatic. Note that
I had to specify all three of value, form and nam otherwise I got
missing args errors. Also note that doing
pdSymm(value=batch.mat, form=~1, nam=batch.names)
on the command line, like the similar invocation described on ?pdSymm,
works fine also. It's just lme() that doesn...

openssh 2.3.0p1-5 loses stdout
...NING: /etc/ssh/primes does not exist, using old prime
Accepted publickey for andrewm from 10.0.0.69 port 1424 ssh2
So many questions ...
. Is this a known bug or a configuration error?
. Is it specific to SuSE's rpm or linux?
. Is it fixed in the latest and greatest openssh?
. What is the enigmatic (undocumented?) /etc/ssh/primes ... ?
. How much was in the FAQ ... :)
(On the same machines -R port forwarding does not work with protocol
version 2, but does with protocol version 1 ... but that could be a
different issue ... )
I did notice this in the changelog ... which seems to describe t...

extracting rows and columns from a big matrix
Hi there and thanks in advance.
I have a large symmetrical matrix stored in a text file. After load in R I would like to extract the same number of columns and rows (symmetrical submatrix) using their labels.
I have tried this code in order to extract columns, but R console gives me the "+" sign at the end of the code, pointing out incomplete command, so it is not working:

...to the scaling of the matrix. If some
rows or columns are a very large magnitude relative to others the
convergence of the optimization can be impeded.
Providing a reproducible example of such an error condition will help
in diagnosing what is happening.
If you wonder why the error message is so enigmatic, it is because the
underlying code is Fortran and does not provide much flexibility for
informative error trapping.
