While I agree this would be the best solution, realistically I'm not
sure it will ever happen. Writing a fully ANSI compliant C/C++ FE might
well be harder than the rest of LLVM combined. &...

sslcertificates module for debian and darwin
Hey all,
i have attached a module which installs SSL-Root-certificates in Debian
and Darwin.
One thing is left to do for darwin: check whether the certificate is
installed already. Until I have figured out how to do this, The test is
rather simple.
There is a class called dfncertificates defined in this module which
gives you a hint how the module is used.
Have fun, comments are welcome.

could generate the same results independently and (hopefully) hasten the
bug fixing process.
FWIW, I agree that the current situation with llvm-gcc is not ideal, but
most of us just build llvm-gcc once and forget about it. The real
solution here is to endow LLVM with its own C/C++ compiler and bootstap,
but that's a longer strategy.

xgobi vs ggobi
...nd clearly I need the
R interface. I'm more at a loss about the first four:
# With/without XML support, with/without embeddable ggobi library
Is there likely to be much advantage, for normal use, in XML?
Are there serious implications in the footprint with this option?
[I'm not generously endowed with RAM here, and would like to keep
as much as possible for real things, i.e. analysing data]
What are the merits of the embeddable library?
With thanks,
Ted.

Error with rgl loading in BATCH mode
...ATCH mode but I get
an error while loading rgl library that is needed by KernSmooth. Actually I
have to run several batch files through a queue of a cluster, so I wouldn't
need graphics at all.
I installed the latest releases of R (2.6.1) and rgl on my CentOS 4.2 Linux
(clone of Red Hat EL) endowed with Rocks 4.2.1 suite for clusters.
If I run the R script from a ssh session on my PC equipped with X Server (I
use Xming), everithing goes smoothly, rgl package is loaded correctly and
the script runs smoothly. However when run in batch mode (that is through a
submission to the cluster batch...

vector finalizers
...vectors. The
issue is discussed here:
https://github.com/edwindj/ffbase/issues/52
Of course, weak references and external pointers allow finalizers to
be assigned to objects, but as I understand it, such objects are
separate types from vectors - there is no way in R to synthesize a
native vector endowed with a finalizer - something which could be
passed directly to built-in functions like 'sum'.
I think a finalizer facility for vectors would be useful because it
would allow us to take advantage of the memory mapping architecture
present in all modern processors, to do fast copy-free ope...

CentOS 6, mptfusion software?
Hi, folks,
Got an older Dell R410, with an LSI 1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS
(rev 08). It *appears* that a) trying MegaRaid, and b) from what I'm
googling, that what I need are mptfusion-related packages.
Unfortunately, yum shows me nothing available in base, epel, or
rpmfusion. Am I looking for the wrong thing, or does anyone have a
source (no, I haven't looked at LSI, sorry

could be ported to the cmdk driver (the x86 Solaris IDE driver)?

no restriction on the level or the area of study.
In this first year of the prize, particularly, we are anxious to
encourage wide participation.
The prize originated from the ACM's Software System award which I
received in May, 1999; the money from that award was used to endow the
new prize (which is why my name is attached to it). The ACM award was
a recognition by the computing profession of the contributions
statistical software has made, and so I hope the new prize will reward
and encourage such contributions.
Applications should go to Lionel Galway:

Is "ChanIsAvail" thread safe?
Curious whether the ChanIsAvail command is thread safe. By that I mean, if I
use ChanIsAvail to determine which channel to use, can I be sure that it
will still be available when I go to Dial it on the next line? It occurs to
me that there's a possibility the channel could get used by a competing
thread AFTER my thread has determined it is available and BEFORE my thread
gets a chance to
