Unix Password Sync -- Are Passwords Encryped?
Hello,
For Unix Password Sync, I am curios how Samba can provide the passwd
program with an unencrypted password.
If a Windows user presses Control+Alt+Delete and changes their password,
are the passwords sent over the network in plain text? Does Samba
decrypt the password, then provide it to the passwd program?
Thanks,
Charles

ssyslogd (encryped syslog)
I was wondering if any one has had any experiance using ssyslogd.

Secure Syslog v1.21
I have read a bit about it, but have been unable to find any good linux
reference. I was wondering if people have been using it with any success.
And if not, are there any other encrypted syslog solutions out there?

Win2k needs password twice
Hi,
I've recently upgraded a few of the win98 machines here to win2kpro, and
now, after logging in, the password has to be entered again for the shares.
I've searched around but can't find a solution to this problem. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
This is on Samba 2.0.7 on FreeBSD, and here is smb.conf:
[global]
guest account = nobody
security = user

Something Wrong? Or Is Samba Meant To Delete My Passwords?
Hi,
I'm using samba-2.2.7 and i've noticed that everytime
my box is restarted/has the power cut off, none of the
machine accounts or encryped passwords in smbpasswd
(i'm using an ntdom btw) work properly. Is this a
security feature or something or is there some way i
can avoid this happening in the future.
Thank's
Karl

Probs with SAMBA(HPUX)<->NT connection
Hi,
I have the following problem. We are using a linux box
for the export of $HOME to NT-clients. All NT clients
are patched not to use encryp. passwords.
Now I tried to move everything to a HP9000(11.00).
Samba (2.0.6) installation was easy. I've just moved the
working smb.conf to the hp and it won't work. :(
I tested everything from a linux box as described in
diag.txt and it works.

Encrypted partition short howto
I've written a short howto on creating and mounting an encrypted
filesystem using dm-crypt. The doc currently lives on our internal
wiki (Trac) at work, but I'd love to rewrite and post for a general
readership. I suppose the proposed URL would be something like

Newbie help: Samba 2.0.3 & SCO 5.0.5
Hi,
I've just installed a binary version of Samba 2.0.3 on SCO 5.0.5 and am
having some problems. I'm basically following "SAMS Teach yourself Samba
in 24 hrs" book.
On a Win98 machine I can see the SCO machine in the Network
Neighborhood. When I try to connect it asks for a passwd and says that
the passwd is incorrect when I enter it. It also displays

\\<Samba-Server>\nobody : feature or bug ?
...ctory tree of
my server.
Is this intended to work this way?
I would have expected that the conection is made to the home
directory of the user used for the authentisation.
The above works with 1.9.18p10 on solaris 2.3 (encrypted passwords
and security = server) and with 2.0.6 on linux (RedHat, encryped
passwords, the password server for the solaris machine; the system
acconts are not in smbpasswd). And it works with 2.0.6 on aix 4.3.
Is there a way to configure samba not to give access to the home dirs
of my system accounts?
I think it is not a good idea to change them all to /dev/null !

On a possibly unrelated issue, I can only connect to the server from
mac os X. smbclient, windows NT, 2000, and XP report login errors.
While I am aware that the windows versions listed want encryped
passwords, smbclient wants plain text ones. The above generated
problem did, in fact, come from the mac. I can use three different
macs to connect, so I do not believe it to be a localized configuration
on my test mac.
What have I missed? I can provide any information you require that I
