problem adding second MD1000 enclosure to LSI 9200-16e
...sure, attached to an LSI 9200-16e. This has been working well. The system is boothing off of internal drives, on a Dell SAS 6ir. I just tried to add a second storage enclosure, with 15 more SAS drives, and I got a lockup during Loading Kernel. I got the same results, whether I daisy chained the enclosures, or plugged them both directly into the LSI 9200. When I removed the second enclosure, it booted up fine. I also have an LSI MegaRAID 9280-8e I could use, but I don''t know if there is a way to pass the drives through, without creating RAID0 virtual drives for each drive, which would comp...

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all, Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID controllers). One product that seems to fit the bill is the StarTech.com S352U2RER, an external dual SATA disk enc...

Mapping sas address to physical disk in enclosure

External SATA enclosures: SiI3124 and CentOS 5?
Tired of "little problems" trying to keep 7 drives working in an old desktop computer, I'm considering an external SATA drive enclosure with a controller card based on the Sil3124. http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=152 I'm a bit concerned about long-term support, namely that the company's driver page only lists drivers through RedHat 4.

eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?
HI All, I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice 1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS. or 2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box? I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music,

Cheap Array Enclosure for ZFS pool?
We have 14 500GB PATA drives left over from another project. Given that ZFS seems to prefer working with jbod''s, does anyone know of an inexpensive enclosure with an fcal interface to host the disks? This message posted from opensolaris.org

what's the meaning of these in R-lang?
In this case the environment contains the variables local to the function, and its enclosure is the environment of the enclosing function.(R-lang:p11) I want to know if the "enclosing function" means the closure of the function? for example ,if I call function mean(),and the create an environment, say e1,then the enclosure of e1 is the namespace of base package? Right? Thank you!

USB2.0/Firewire Enclosure
I (work :) bought a USB2.0/Firewire enclosure and I had a little trouble with it until I came across this page http://people.freebsd.org/~maho/USB/comment/ku350a.txt after trying the sysctl things work well. I haven't tried the USB2.0 side of it, as I don't have any USB2.0 controllers. The Firewire bit works great too (quite a bit faster than USB1 :) The enclosure in question is made

high density SAS
Well Solaris SAS isn''t there yet but anyway just found some interesting high density SAS/SATA enclosures. <http://xtore.com/product_list.asp?cat=JBOD> The XJ 2000 is like the x4500 in that it holds 48 drives, however with the XJ 2000 2 drives are on each carrier and you can get to them from the front. I don''t like xtore in general but the 24 bay (2.5" SAS) and 48 bay JBODs are i...

multipath recipe for an enclosure ?
hi guys, In hope that some experts roam around I post this one question - how do you multipath disks(all disks) that sit in one specific SAS enclosure? Blacklist everything else. And I'm hoping for something like "globing", so you do not want to go through it on by single disk/wwin basis. some experts?(or maybe even not, it could be that I do not get it) many thanks, L.

USB device not detected (CentOS 4.7)
I recently purchased an I/O Magic USB enclosure for 3.5" IDE hard drive. Has anyone else used one of these? It works fine with Windows, except of course that Windows can't read the ext2 partitions on the disk I put into the enclosure. CentOS4 can't find the device, much less access the drive -- it doesn't show up in "lsusb" output, although the active light on the

Re: New Server Recommendation -- Hot-Swap SATA enclosure ...
[ Yes, SP^M'n the list with follow-ups to myself ;-] From: Bryan J. Smith > If you are building a new system with such storage requirements, > I would really push you towards a 3Ware Escalade 8006-2 or 8506-4. When cost is supreme, then just a Escalade 7006-2 or 8006-2 with (2) [P]ATA or [S]ATA drives is what you want. It only adds ~$125 to system cost. When you want to minimize

Locally attached disk is seen, 40 gig PATA in USB enclosure is not.
Hi Folks, When I boot ISOLinux, the locally attached disk is visible but the PATA 40 Gig in a USB attached enclosure is not. The locally attached disk has no bearing on what I am doing and to avoid confusion will not be mentioned again. Everything is happening on the 40 Gig. Let me explain. The goal is: Copy an installation iso to the disk, boot the disk and install it on that disk. I have

Recommendation for home NAS external JBOD
Hi, my oi151 based home NAS is approaching a frightening "drive space" level. Right now the data volume is a 4*1TB Raid-Z1, 3 1/2" local disks individually connected to an 8 port LSI 6Gbit controller. So I can either exchange the disks one by one with autoexpand, use 2-4 TB disks and be happy. This was my original approach. However I am totally unclear about the 512b vs 4Kb issue.

lshw in centos 7 withdrawn
John-- Thanks for the suggestion. I finally had a chance to get to the system in question, It was the only one of many that exhibited the USB hang. I tried a reboot with the two USB disks disconnected. Everything worked. I plugged them in, and then did both "lsusb -v" and "lshw", and again, everything worked. Continuing my test: Reboot with both drives plugged in:
