Pre-emptive strike for OSX users re problem ichatting rails projects around
Hi:
I have the good fortune to program with my girlfriend. I iChatted
her a project this morning and it would not run on her machine. After
a rather lengthy investigative process we found that if I zipped the
file then emailed it, she could decompress it and run it. If I
ichatted it to her, it would not run.
We don''t yet know the exact reason but if you encounter a similar

Index question
The day I switch our user to dovecot and it goes into production, there
will be a few thousand people all generating their indices for the first
time (we have a legacy requirement for procmail, at least for now), so I
wondered:
1) Is there is anyway to pre-emptively force indexing?
2) Is there any value in doing so? That is, will I gain much in terms
of making the first time everyone connects to dovecot quicker (not that
big initial wait)?

turn off auto-seek extention - force use timeout
...where a call-in user is prompted to enter an
identification number for schedule information. That id number is setup
as an extension, and if that extension doesn't exist, it tells them that
they are not scheduled, then loops back to ask for the id number again.
My problem is that asterisk pre-emptively goes to the i extension
(invalid) too early depending on available extensions. For example, if
I put in id number 4768, and there is only 4790 and 4732, it will push
to the invalid extension on the 6, then the "not scheduled" playback
message (a cepstral command) gets cancelled out fr...

PRI dialing IVR with inband DTMF
...ent DTMF to engage
the IVR. With some light research it appears that the DSP is not activating
until the call is answered.
DTMF on the SIP side is set to RFC2833 -- calls all work fine when
originating from a SIP phone connected to the same device.
Any suggestions on what needs to be done to pre-emptively enable DSP and or
early media on the PRI (outbound)??
Thanks,
Anthony

Interesting catalog: Viking Electronics
This is not specifically Asterisk-related, but I think that sometimes
a "pre-emptive" clue is a good thing.
Viking Electronics (http://www.vikingelectronics.com/) has some neat
widgets that attach to phone lines, which I'm sure many of the people
on this list would find at least somewhat useful in conjunction with
their Asterisk systems. Many of the widgets can be re...

It looks like the real issue at hand is that stat is indeed reporting
allocated size caused by the filesystem pre-emptively over-allocating
based on access patterns (more so when creating the first file,
especially when reopening the file; less so when copying as the source
file size is now stabilized so the copy has less reason to overshoot).
But since the real crux of the test is whether we managed to punch

Theora, great stuff!
...easingly
incompatible with Theora players. Development forks at that point,
Theora development then has to compete with the forked codebase. The
forked codebase possibly an incompatible version of Theora with Digital
Restrictions management as a 'value added' feature.
A solution to pre-emptively defend the theora project from such games
would be for further changes to be placed under a license which requires
public disclosure of derivative source code. Given incompatible versions
based on the Theora code base would no longer be secret, business plans
based around releasing incompati...

Asterisk or Trixbox
...ing to activate. There are some departments that use only a standard PABX-like, use 8 Ports FXO Gateway, 48 Ports FXS Gateway and all they need is to be able to call and be called. I used Trixbox for this application. I have some departments that use ISDN Trunks that uses E1 Gateway, Predictive/Pre-emptive dialing I use only plain Asterisk.
In short, I decided on what to use base on what will be my applications. If my application needs some modification/patches to be done during the installation of Asterisk or Zaptel, I use plain Asterisk. But if, its straight-forward PABX application with IVRS, ca...
