lightdm fails to stop & can't change login
I've been using lightdm for about a year now and with all the versions
I've tried, Gentoo prints a message about lightdm and xdm failing to
stop if I reboot from the lightdm menu or the xfce4 menu. If I issue
'reboot' as root from an xterm within xfce4, lightdm stops fine. I
couldn't find anything in the logs, but in which one of syslog-ng's
logs should I look?

VDPAU & 8400GS support?
I've been using the proprietary Nvidia driver and I just found out
about Nouveau. Does it support VDPAU or are there plans to implement
it? Does it support the 8400GS card?

--fake-super locally?
I'm rsyncing files on system1 to its external HD. system2 is remote
and pulls those files from the external HD. system2 does not have
root privileges on system1 so I chown the files to pull. Can I
somehow use --fake-super or something similar to save the original
ownership info to ACLs?

Weak DH primes and openssh
> Can this be addressed in ssh_config/sshd_config with the KexAlgorithms setting?
weakdh.org/sysadmin.html recommends adding:
KexAlgorithms curve25519-sha256 at libssh.org
But this thread makes it sound as if it's not necessary. Can anyone
confirm? Personally I'm on openssh-6.7.

launching Firefox causes system crash
Launching firefox is causing a system crash with a black or white
screen and diagonal lines across it. I've tried the latest nouveau
from git and the latest kernel. I can't find anything in the logs
unfortunately. Any ideas?

Post-migration questions
I just migrated from courier-imap to dovecot and dovecot is a lot
faster. My only client is webmail on the same server as dovecot. Max
~10 users.
Should I still run imapproxy like I did with courier?
Does dovecot periodically empty the trash folder like courier does?
I reduced the number of processes courier was running to save RAM and
improve performance. Are there any performance tweaks I

rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository
I'm rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository to a different machine and I
have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.
Should I use --archive? Or maybe -rlD instead?
Can I restrict an SSH key to rsync? I can do it with rdiff-backup
with command="rdiff-backup --server" but I can't figure out how to do
it with rsync.
The rdiff-backup repository I'm

Option "Rotate" is not used
I just switched from nvidia to nouveau and I get the following in Xorg.0.log:
(WW) NOUVEAU(0): Option "Rotate" is not used
I have the following in xorg.conf because I've rotated the LCD screen
to change its orientation:
Option "Rotate" "CCW"
Can this be done with nouveau? BTW, I can't say for sure that nouveau
isn't rotating the screen image because

speedup is always 0.99
I'm syncing from a USB disk to my hard disk like this:
rsync -vr /path/to/usb/disk/dir/ /path/to/hard/disk/dir/
But the speedup is always 0.99 which I think means it is just copying
the files each time instead of syncing them. What could be wrong?

Packet shaping config
I have packet shaping set up with "The Wonder Shaper" tcstart file. I
thoroughly tested upload and download performance with bittorrent and
the following config was the best:
DOWNLINK=425
UPLINK=3450
DEV=ath0
The main problem is that browsing is sluggish, but ssh is a bit
sluggish too. Bittorrent performance is great though. My bittorrent
client is set to listen on port 6881 so I

rsync won't hit the target
I'm trying to get rsync to copy some files across the network to a
particular folder, but it always drops them in the user's home
directory and changes the folder permissions of the home directory
from drwxr-x--- to drwxr-xr-x. Can anyone tell me how to fix these
problems? I'm using rsync like this:
rsync -avz --delete --include '/etc' --exclude '/*' /

wildcards and nested files
I'm trying to use wildcards and nested files and I think there must be
a better way than what I'm doing. If I want to copy only these two
directories:
/etc
/home/*/.maildir
Is this the best way to do it:
rsync -arzv --delete-excluded --files-from 'files-from.txt'
--include-from 'include-from.txt' --exclude-from 'exclude-from.txt' /
rsyncuser at hostname:

Pulling stalls before 52MB (works via netcat)
I can push fine over ssh but pulling via rsync or scp always stalls at
about the same point which must be between 26MB and 52MB. I can pull
via netcat just fine. I've tried compiling HPN out of the install on
both the client and server and I've tried -C on the client with the
same result. I'm on Gentoo. Any ideas?
