chm NOT fixed but success elswhere
First: Contrary to claims chm viewing is NOT fixed. It's better but graphics and the index are still broken. I washed my hands on bug reporting of the problems, as I now use firefox with the chm addon which works even better than the last kchmviewer I tried. Great News: I installed the latest PBWin9.0 and the first example I tried worked flawlessly. This surprised me as this was a COM example

"Decent" sub-$100 SIP phone.
...;s wiki entry says the remote end gets a lot of static. Since it'll be being used from a noisy environment (a cleanroom), the less overall static, the better. Someone suggested the Polycom 301's, but I'd lose money on them. [I'll go with them if I have to, as I'm making money elswhere, but still...] So, does anyone have any suggestions for decent sub-$100, professional-looking SIP phones? Thanks! Ken D'Ambrosio

installing an add-on package
Dear all, my apologies if I am posting a silly question - but I couldn't find any helpful information on this elswhere. In the R FAQ, version 1.8-1, there is a section "5.2 How can add-on packages be installed?", but it only gives information for Unix users. How can I install an add-on package under Windows? (Specifically, I have downloaded the "rmeta" package from CRAN.) Thanks for your help!...

How can I make these command prompt settings into universal settings?
...ness each time I want to start an application. Further, instead of having to configure each application individually, it would be better to have this setting just on all the time for every application, both existing and new. I was under the impression this was possible. Following advice gained elswhere, I thought I could put the following into /etc/X11/Xresources: ! Japanese Input #!/bin/sh XMODIFIERS='@im=kinput2' LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 kinput2 -canna & But doing so results in Japanese input not being available for any application. I'm using KDE, and I learned that I should be ab...

Evaluating R expressions from C
...are R_len_t defineVar install VECTOR_ELT SET_VECTOR_ELT The last I also found in 5.7.4, but it's not defined there either. So: What do these macros do? Some I could guess, like is.Environment; and I'm fairly confident of R_len_t. Others I need some help. Perhaps they are elswhere in the document? (My version of acrobat can't do searches.) Is there another document that I should look at first? Why "isNewList"? I would have guessed "isList". What's the difference? Thanks for any help, Terry Therneau

share folders in BTRFS w/o having to retransfer back from a wind0ze computer
...ing I could just change the ownership recursively to be something standard, like root:sambashares and put it in the smb.conf, reload then use computer management on a windows box to set owners and groups I did read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares and googled stuff elswhere.. However, only the folders made during provisioning seem to be manageable from the windows computers. My thought, the "acl" is not set... I had hoped maybe samba would do that for me.... I was able to use the folder created during provisioning to create other shares underneath and...

...close_printer_handle: Invalid handle (OTHER) smbd/process.c:timeout_processing(1138) Closing idle connection 2. smbd/server.c:exit_server(456) Closing connections My question is this: What would cause the PC to refuse connection from the server on port 445 [I brief search shows a few posts elswhere indicating that this port is used by win2k - is this correct?] and what should one do to correct this issue (this is an NT wkstn)? The printer itself is fine - other PCs print to it just fine [even from the same application]. Would the port be blocked if a manditory profile has been assigned to th...

Learn Typing Quick & Easy - unusual message from app
...I tried setting the Windows version to NT 3.51, but that didn't satisfy it). Note: I have often seen the case elsewhere where an app says it requires version/subversion/etc > XXX, but really wants version/etc > X & version/etc < Y so how do I set an NT build number in winecfg? Or elswhere, such as in the registry? Thanks -- ...Dave Dawson "If you wrestle in the mud with a pig, you both get dirty, and the pig likes it."

Advice needed for samba for school use
.../print server for a group of 24 Win98 machines in a mixed-age (K-12) school lab in Mexico. There are approx. 200 students and every hour the users change. The users do not often use the same machine they last used. I need to automate the process as much as possible; I'm sure this is being done elswhere and I hate to reinvent the wheel. What I need to happen is this: 1. All login info. and user profiles stored on the samba server and only on the samba server. If local copies are made, over time every machine will have password and profile information (likely out-of-date) for every student. I have...

fax support
Hi all, I have read many forums and discussion groups talking about fax support in asterisk. Some of them conclude that asterisk doesn't support fax. However, some of them conclude that there is no relationship between fax and asterisk as asterisk will only pass the fax signal to the fax machine. I have tried the fax in asterisk before but failed. Anyone can give me some guideline how to

how to create an mpeg4 mimetype (OT)
Hi All, I think this may be off topic, but since it's through centos 5.2, I'm not sure. Here is what I would like to do: I have created a web page for family to log into and view clips of my new niece. My camera saves these clips in mpeg4 format. What I would like to do is have the web clients click on the link and have either the clip pop up a save dialog or even better, start

[LLVMdev] Optimized "opt" on Darwin fails to load dynamic libraries with passes

[LLVMdev] Optimized "opt" on Darwin fails to load dynamic libraries with passes
Hi all, This is a problem that occurs for me only on Darwin (MacOS) and not on Linux. When llvm 2.8 (or 2.9) is compiled with ENABLE_OPTIMIZED=1, the "opt" tool fails to load LLVM passes in dynamic libraries (.dylib) files, regardless of how they themselves were built. When opt is built with ENABLE_OPTIMIZED=0, all is well. Here is some informative output. Seems to me the problem is

OT: How to "own" a telephone number?
Hello! We are open to the possibility of changing our business telephone number shortly. This will most likely be necessary due to a physical move, changing providers and a few other reasons. However, we woud like this to be the *last* time we need to do this. Ever. No matter what. Is that possible? On the Internet, you get this power with domain names. We "own" our domain
