RFC: Elmo will be 1.0
Hi all, After discussions with Ben about development priorities, it looks like we''re going to make elmo be 1.0. Puppet is clearly no longer beta, and it''s time for our version number to reflect that fact. I''m about to go through the entire ticket database and classify everything appropriately, so it will be clear what we''re planning on doing for elmo.

Bug#510472: logcheck-database: pam_unix messages could be ignored.
Package: logcheck-database Version: 1.2.68 Severity: normal I'm using ldap to authenticate users. And thus pam_unix is sufficient, but allowed to fail. It has now started to spam the logs with lots of Jan 2 09:22:57 sisko sshd[28511]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=host92-22-static.38-79-b.business.telecomitalia.it user=root And on

Samba-2.2.3a and Win95?
...e and I am quite sure, that it is a problem with this samba version, since the smb.conf was only slightly modified from the working 2.0.6 / 2.2.2 PDC, nevertheless it's attached - please excuse the few germ-comments. Hopefully someone can help. Sieve global path?
I just checked with Thunderbird, SquirrelMail, and Roundcube.? The sieve directory is not in the overview. dovecot is highly configurable.? Ya think I may have configured mine where this is not a problem?? I have 9+ mail servers running this way. RFC: Multiple small releases, or one big roll-up?
Hi all, In looking at the current bug list for elmo[1], it''s pretty clear that this is a lot of work, and some of it is kind of segmented into related chunks. Additionally, a good bit of it has an impact on backward compatibility, although in nearly all cases I expect to be able to remain entirely or almost entirely backwards compatible. Given that, would people prefer that I

SSH connection hangs with ipchains/RH6.2/OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 (but not <= 2.3.0p1)
I just recently installed OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 on a RH6.2 box (kernel 2.2.17). I run ipchains to do packet filtering, allowing incoming connections only to 22 and 80 (and some other ports for specific machines). I was able to run prior versions of openssh in this fashion (I've run it from the first release, I think). Upon installing 2.5.1p1 I found that my attempts to connect hang, here is ssh

0.22.4 release candidate
Hi all, I''m hoping to release 0.22.4 on Monday, so please test now. As always, if possible please actually run this somewhere in your infrastructure, in addition to running the unit tests, since there are always areas that aren''t quite covered with the unit tests. Hopefully this will be the last point release before the next major release (elmo). -- To my

...rver named info, that shows the failing actions I have a workaround, thus i'm not in severe trouble, but the strace/truss makes me quite unhappy, since it unveals a very odd behaviour of the Samba-Server. two lattice graphs in one object
When I create a lattice/Trellis type graph, I typically write a function that returns the graph, as in do.graph <- function(x, y, ...) { require(lattice) return(xyplot(y~x, ...)) } My question today is this: If I want two graphs on one page, one way of achieving it is to print the objects into defined areas, as in gr1 <- xyplot(rnorm(111) ~ runif(111)) gr2 <-

Booting from USB
This isn't necessarily a SYSLINUX question, but a probe. Just wondering if anyone has ever gotten a bootable USB chip to work under linux. I was able to do it using SYSLINUX and an initrd image, but I would like something a bit more robust, ... ie: remounting a second ext3fs partition on the boot chip by being able to have partitions on the usb chip, syslinux on the mbr, and part 1

Question on docs
Just wondering if there was any documentation other than what's on the FAQ/webpage? If not, under the section which says how to be able to use syslinux on a harddrive, it states, "A simple MBR, roughly on par with the one installed by DOS (but unencumbered), is included in the SYSLINUX distribution" How do i install this MBR to the harddrive (in my case, I am using a USB drive

FW: Manual replication of PDC
I've been trying to move a samba PDC (Samba 3.02 on SUSE Linux 10) to a new machine. Since this is a small network (less than 15 workstations and a comparable number of users) I'm using the tdbsam backend, and therefore can't (I believe) set up a self-replicating BDC. So the purpose of this effort is to develop a backup plan that I know will work when the server goes down and I

Listing all binary trees of an ordinal set
Hi all, I'm new to R, have been reading books and trying to get started coding too. The first thing of substance I've been trying to do is to create a function to return a list of all binary trees of a list of ordinals. So, for example, an input of list(3,1,2,4) would return: list(list(1, list(2, list(3, 4))), list(1, list(list(2, 3), 4)), list(list(1, 2), list(3, 4)),

Puppet Best Practice
Hello everyone, A long time ago, I posted the Stanford Best Practices and I''ve gone through and updated it today. I''d like to have people go through it and see if we can strip out some Stanford specific stuff and tag this as an official best practice. I think an official best practice will be important as more and more people consider making shareable modules, etc (mostly
