fitting log function: errors using nls and nlxb
...is log base 10. Is there a way I can ask R to try for logs of different functions? For example, FG2.model<-(nlxb((CO2~log(a*Time,c)+b), start=start,data=FG2)), where c is an additional variable. When I try this, R tells me Non-numeric argument to mathematical function Thank you in advance, Elizabeth [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

getting faster results
...r this question. I am working with really large datasets and most of the programs I have been running take quite some time. I heard that R may be faster in Unix. I sthis true and if so can anyone reccomend which system and requirements may allow things to go faster for? Thanks!! likelihood ratio tests using glmmPQL
...ata with a mixed effects model using glmmPQL. I am aware that I cannot use the AIC values to help me find the minimum adequate model so how do I perform likelihood ratio tests? I need to fix on the minimum adequate model but I'm not sure of the proper way to do this. AIC in lmer when using PQL
...lmer also uses PQL methods. However, I wasn't sure so please could somebody clarify this for me. I was also wondering how best to assess your minimum adequate model without AIC values? Do you simply have to rely on the p values associated with the t-values/z-values? Thanks very much. partially linear models
Hey, I am estiamting a partially linear model y=X\beta+f(\theta) where the f(\theta) is estiamted using wavelets. Has anyone heard of methods to test if the betas are significant or to address model fit? Thanks for any thoughts or comments. Wishlist: simple legend options (PR#7400)
Hello! I was loooking in R-bugs and found under wishlist-fullfilled wish for "smart" placement of a legend. This has already been done in package gplots in function smartlegend. One question. This "bug-report" is under wishlist-fullfilled. Is it really fullfilled? Mail from Elizabeth --------------------------------------------------------------- It would be nice if legend had the option of some default locations you could choose instead of entering specific coordinates, like "topleft", "topright","topcenter", etc. based on par("usr") co...

Downloads -- possible bug?
....2.1, but if I go http://cran.stat.ucla.edu/ the option is 2.2.0 (I'm downloading the Windows base file). Neither refreshing nor clearing my cache changes it. For future reference, I'd like to know if this is a mistake or if different mirrors are just updated at different times? Thanks, Elizabeth Purdom

Or are there any way to indentify all the unique patterns in a huge matrix? ( 10000 x 71) Thanks for any suggestions!! 'all' inconsistent?
...UE(logical(0)) [1] FALSE This actually came up in practice when I did something like > all( names(x) %in% vec ) as an error-handling, and I was hoping that it would work regardless of whether x had names or not. I can clearly work around it, but it seemed like strange behavior to me. Thanks, Elizabeth Purdom R 2.2.1, Windows XP

This will leave you with a wd object that you can then reconstruct using wr from wavethresh. I hope this works and is still useful to you.
