graphsheet substitute in R?
...lumn containing the
factor "site," and five water-quality variables at each site. As one part
of exploring these data, I'd like the students to run
by(ourdata,site,pairs).
When I try that, however, the pairs plots for the first 10 sites scroll
past, and I'm left to look at the eleventh only.
I think that if I did this same thing in s-plus with a graph sheet, each of
the graphs would be saved to a separate page, and then they could be viewed
one at a time. Is there any way to do the equivalent in R? (Using splom
from lattice makes the graphs too small.)
Thanks for any hel...

R Help
Hi,
I have a polynomial of 2n^2-5n+3 and I have my n values going up in powers of 2 i.e. n=2,4,8,16?..
I wanted to fit this curve to the function A*n*log2(n) +B*n where A and B are to be found.
How would i do this?
Thank you

loop variable passage and lists
...ot understand why the following expression is accepted (and gives the expected result: to set column 3 and 4 of the first
element of list1 -a data.frame list- as first element of list2):
> list2[[1]]<-list1[[1]][3:4]
...while this one is not (to do the same iteratively from the first to the eleventh element of list1):
> for (i in 1:11){list2[[i]]<-list1[[i]][3:4]}
Error in "[.data.frame"(list1[[i]], 3:4) :
undefined columns selected
It looks like if the loop variable "i" could not be passed into the loop.
Any hint?

Win SBS 2003 ADS and samba 3.0.8 authentication problem for 11th user
Hi,
I'm running samba 3.0.8 on SuSE 9.0 (heimdal 0.6-161) as a ADS member server
in a Windows SBS 2003 Domain (with 15 client access licences).
My problem is, that every morning, when people login the eleventh user
cannot connect to the samba shares.
After restarting nmb, smb and winbind, they can.
The log file for the client pc shows following error:

Inherit names ...
No doubt an easy answer to this exists.
I have a data frame which comprises 4 matrices and 2 vectors:
year(1024,6),growth(1024,6),ycens(1024,6),gcens(1024,6),yinit(1024),ginit(1024)
The names of the 26 columns get denoted as y.1 to y.6, g.1 to g.6, yc.1 to
yc.6, gc.1 to gc.6, yi and gi as these are the internal names.
I wish to make a subset of the data using the logical vector R1(length

Mardia's multivariate normality test
Dear all,
I got this error message
> library(dprep)
> mardia(Savg)
Error in cov(data) : 'x' is empty
But with the same data, I got
> library(mvnormtest)
> mshapiro.test(Savg)
Shapiro-Wilk normality test
data: Z
W = 0.9411, p-value = 0.6739
What does the error message "Error in cov(data) : 'x' is empty" mean? Thanks a lot!

FreeBSD Security Survey
Dear FreeBSD users and system administrators,
While the FreeBSD Security Team has traditionally been very good at
investigating and responding to security issues in FreeBSD, this only
solves half of the security problem: Unless users and administrators
of FreeBSD systems apply the security patches provided, the advisories
issued accomplish little beyond alerting potential attackers to the

English vs American voice files
My wife's got an appropriate Southern England (Wimbledon) accent and I'm
sure she would try her hand. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the
words that need to be said? Matt, do you have them if your wife's done a
set for French users?
Mark, if you have the kit maybe you could chop up the file? I write a
utility to chop up and compress the wave file based on some of the C
