distances between points in R^3
Dear R helpers, I'm trying to write a numerical scheme for a boundary integral method to solve an electromagnetic problem. This requires the computation of the distance between points at the surface of an object (a sphere, in my example). Here is my code, > require(rgl) > r<-1 > size<-10 > theta<-seq(0,2*pi,length=size*2) > phi<-seq(0,pi,length=size) > pc

Problem using 2.0.23 client in a domain with a Samba 2.0.20c PDC.
I have a samba PDC running 2.0.20c I installed Samba 2.0.23 on a client joined to the domain. With this combination, when I attempt to connect to a share on this client from any host even the localhost results in the following: $ smbclient //localhost/atest -U auser Password: Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23-SerNet-RedHat] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED Windows

adaptive optimization of mesh size
DeaR list, I'm running an external program that computes some electromagnetic response of a scattering body. The numerical scheme is based on a discretization with a characteristic mesh size "y". The smaller y is, the better the result (but obviously the computation will take longer). A convergence study showed the error between the computed values and the exact solution

Restoring backup?
I have understood correctly when thinking that all I need to do in order to restore mails, is to just copy the old maildir folder to the location where mail_location is pointing to and dovecot will find all the mails and display the old mails? mod_smbfilepwd_entry: Using old smbpasswd format. This is no longer supported.! ?????
I have been using (actually inheareted the system) a file for the Samba password database using since something during the 2.0 erra. New accounts have been successfully added and users are apparently logging in ok. After installing 3.0.6 I am seeing these things in my log (log level=3). mod_smbfilepwd_entry: Using old smbpasswd format. This is no longer supported.! 1. What is the

MultiHomed public/private Problem
I have a system that is multi-homed on one "private" network and one "public" network. My configuration file extract has the following commands: . . . bind interfaces only = yes interfaces = eth0 eth1 lo ;; eth0=private - eth1=public . . . Our network has a single WINS server and records for the host BOTH the private and public addresses. For several hundred computers in

non-negative least-squares
Hi all, I am trying to do an inversion of electromagnetic data with non-negative least squares method (Tikhonov regularisation) and have got it programmed in S-Plus. However I am trying to move all my scripts from S-Plus to R. Is there an equivalent to nnls.fit in R? I think this can be done with pcls? Right? S-Plus script: A, L and data are matrices, lambda is a vector of possible lambda

regression coefficient for different factors
Dear R-helpers, In my dataset I have two continuous variable (A and B) and one factor. I'm investigating the regression between the two variables usign the command lm(A ~ B, ...) but now I want to know the regression coefficient (r2) of A vs. B for every factors. I know that I can obtain this information with excel, but the factor have 68 levels...maybe [r] have a useful command. Thanks,

Best way to update old Mdk box w/2.09 to 3.06??
Mates, I am at the point that I will have to update my trusty samba 2.0.9 to 3.0.6 or 2.2.11. (damn SP2) Problem is that my production machine is still running Mandrake 7.2 and, of course, there aren't any RPMs for the old distro. So, I guess my option is to install from source. Do I need to rpm -e the 2.0.9 before attempting to compile and install 2.2.11 or 3.0.6? My server is a simple

Centos & UPS
Hello, I received for X-mas an APC UPS system form my computer. I'm looking for how I can integrate it into the system so that the system will shut down either after the UPS power is low enough or a timed event after the power is out will automatically shutdown. Would also like it to be smart enough to stop the shut down process if power is restored before the shutdown starts. Anyone

Physical Units in Calculations
Back in 2005 I had been doing most of my work in Mathcad for over 10 years. For a number of reasons I decided to switch over to R. After much effort and help from you folks I am finally "thinking" in R rather than thinking in Mathcad and trying to translating to R. Anyway, the only task I still use Mathcad for is calculations that involve physical quantities and units. For example, in
