USRMGR group problems
I'm having some odd problems with USRMGR and Samba group accounts.
USRMGR seems to work fine for user accounts, and it also correctly
displays the list of group objects (these are all stored in LDAP btw).
This can be seen in http://www.ehsco.com/misc/samba/umgr-main.gif
Two of the groups can be managed while the other two cannot. For example,
http://www.ehsco.com/misc/samba/umgr-admins.gif shows that the "Admins"
group can be opened but http://www.ehsco.com/misc/samba/umgr-users.gif
shows that the "Users" group can...

policies primer posted
After trying to get all the policy stuff nailed down I figured I'd save
others the trouble, so I wrote up a primer and posted it on my site at
http://www.ehsco.com/reading/20051031.html
Hoepfully that will save others some trouble

otherwise it ought to be pretty straightforward scripting.
Thanks for any info

question on user auth
...authentication ever needed for just querying variables?
My cacti script seems to be cooked, and I'm just wondering if I need to
mess with username/password stuff. Not hard but if it's not needed then
why bother...
Thanks

POLEDIT replacement?
I've been reading about policies and the documentation says to grab
poledit.exe from the NT SP6a file.
There are many policy settings that are not available via this tool.
Isn't there something newer that could be used to create the .pol file
needed by samba to implement policies? Or will this only be available
with samba4?

anything done here that I can copy?

Win32 services management?
Hi there,
I just saw samba added the "net rpc service" for Win32 service
management since 3.0.20, and it's fantastic. I used to use samba-tng
to do this job, but now I can use samba! However, I also found it has
limited usage. I cannot pass parameters when I start a service, and I
cannot create a new service, too.
Is there any plan for samba to extend this feature?

does PXE have a BIOS device addr?
...ike, floppies are usually addressed as 0x00 and first HD is usually
addressed as 0x80, is there a standard for PXE?
It'd be great to have a reliable "boot from PXE" option and that seems
like the way to go...
Thanks

LDAP search failed: Size limit exceeded
Hi list. I've decided to try and tackle this one piece at a time.
Does anyone know why I would get the following error:

I've also used XFS (a couple of years ago) and liked it but had some
troubles with cross-platform Unix and the extended ACLs.
What's the preference today?

Does this work? Any pointers?

2003 Server won't join or leave domain
We've got a Windows 2003 server which won't join our Samba domain, it just sits
their forever after I give the root password to join. It doesn't give an \
error message or "Welcome to domainxyz" message.
It also won't join a workgroup, which is strange. Has anyone else seen this
problem? No problems with XPSP2 clients. Not got 2003 SP1 on yet, might try
that next.

Problem creating root ldap user in SLES9
Hello,
I am running Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9, and I am
trying to get Samba to authenticate using LDAP. I am
using the YaST system tool to configure the LDAP server,
LDAP client, and SAMBA.
The issue I am having is that after I configure the Samba
server to use the LDAP backend it prompts me for a
password creation for the root user. This root user will
be added to the LDAP
