Share Connection Failure
...h the same passwords
as on the Win2k PC from which they're trying to gain access. Network
Neighborhood browsing shows up the shares, but access is denied.
The directory structure is:
/data (owned by root:root)
/data/accounts (owned by owner:group)
When I try to gain access to [accounts] as ehines (one of the users), all I
get is a dialog box saying "incorrect password or unknown user name," and
I'm invited to log in--which is then rejected, also. There is a [homes]
share to which I gain access easily and correctly. I can gain access to
[accounts] by logging in from the W...

Samba Shares With only Partial Access
...h users access to their individual
shares. Essentially, I'm working through the Accounting Office example
(pgs 31-35) of John Terpstra's 2004 Samba-3 By Example, and I'm doing
something foolish and wrong on a basic level. I can get access to, and
manipulate the files in, my share (ehines), but neither I, nor the other
user, can get access to the other share (ahines). That I cannot access
the other share is correct by the example, but the other user just gets
an Access Denied error when trying to access her share (the ahines share).
From the Linux box, she can access her share...

Samba Shares Still Not Quite
I've still not quite got things right. I'm running FC3 with Samba v
3.0.14a, and I'm trying to implement Example 2.4 from JHT's 2004 ed. of
Samba-3 by Example. I have lserver1 as my Linux box and jupiter (user
annlee) and mustelidae (ehines) as Win2k boxes. ehines has access to
his share (path /archive/ehines (/archive/%U in smb.conf)), but annlee
does not to her share (/archive/annlee). If I add annlee as a valid
user to master, though, she does have access. Without annlee as a valid
user of share master, then when she tries to ac...

[Fwd: Samba-3 By Ex Chapt 3]
...c/resolv.conf, but in my case it won't stay edited--it keeps getting
set back to an original form (for searching my ISP) on every reboot.
Thanks again.

I guess I'm ate up with dumb because I'm having a great deal of
difficulty with this chapter.
I'm running Samba v 3.0.14a on an FC3 machine. I've got two basic
problems: one centers on my DNS set up and the other is an...

Network and Reboot Problem
...ver, my problem is this: if I have occasion to reboot either (or
both) Windows devices after having successfully formed the LAN, I
can't get back to my shares except through some convoluted
machinations, and the server no longer appears in NN or in
Explorer. When I run START|RUN|\\lserver0\ehines, I get access to
the ehines home share. When I run, from a DOS command line, net view
\\lserver0, I get a listing of all the shares to which I'm supposed
to have access. Net use \\lserver0\<share> returns a successful
completion message. I get this behavior on both devices, and whe...

Stable Network Down
Hi,
I've had a stable Samba-run LAN, with some active shares, for several
months, with my PC and laptop also gaining access to the Internet
through the Samba server. However, this morning, when I booted up my
Samba server, I had no LAN--neither my PC nor my laptop could connect to
any share. However, both still had access to the Internet.
I confirmed that smb, named, winbindd, et al.,

Can't Connect to Shares

net drive mapping not working in login script
I've set the path for each user in pdbedit and created a login script with drive mapping etc etc
The network drives aren't being mapped when I login each user:
smb.conf
[global]
printcap name = cups
cups options = raw
map to guest = Bad User
# include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf
logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile
logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile
