Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
...r this seems to be on the short side at the moment. It is available at the following address: http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto I have yet to convert it to proper DocBook format, and it needs more material (probably corrections, too). Please feel free to comment. Cheers, Paul Eggleton

Samba 3.0.0beta3: Problem looking up SID of root
...eta 2 installation - I could look at a folder on the share from Windows and it would display MACHINENAME\root, not an unresolved SID. I have tried deleting the winbind idmap tdb file but it doesn't help the situation. how i install samba!!
...You probably need to add it, then. If you don't already have an smb.conf, or the one in /etc/samba is empty, you can copy the sample one from /usr/share/samba-xxxx/examples/smb.conf.default to /etc/samba/smb.conf. Why are the binaries so huge?
Hi list I just compiled 3.0rc1 on Solaris 9 (UltraSparc IIe) with gcc 3.3. Seems to work fine but I am surprised by the enormous size of the binaries: (ub-blade1):/usr/local/samba/sbin # ll total 232272 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root other 44719632 Aug 28 15:07 nmbd -rwxr-xr-x 1 root other 89726544 Aug 28 15:07 smbd -rwxr-xr-x 1 root other 44807356 Aug 28 15:07 swat -rwxr-xr-x

Any way to do Linux User home directories via Samba
All of our user authentication is done via LDAP. We have an all Linux backend and tons of windows desktops. We've just started getting a few people to move to Linux on the desktop. Is there any way that I can have their home directory automatically mounted via Samba when they log in? Thanks, Jason Joines Open Source = Open Mind ========================
