contrast package with interactions in gls model
Hi! I try to explain the efffect of (1) forest where i took samples's soils (* Lugar*: categorical variable with three levels), (2) nitrogen addition treatments (*Tra*: categorical variable with two levels) on total carbon concentration's soil samples (*C: *continue* *variable) during four months of sampling (*Time:* categorical and ordered variable with four levels). coxme with frailty--variance of random effect?
Dear all, This probably stems from my lack of understanding of the model, but I do not understand the variance of the random effect reported in coxme. Consider the following toy example: #------------------------------- BEGINNING OF CODE ------------------------------------------------ library(survival) library(coxme) #--- Generate toy data: d <- data.frame(id = c(1:100), #

[LLVMdev] nsw is still logically inconsistent
...bly need some kind of fixup path _a_la_ IA64's check instruction. The whole point of this is to be able to hoist nsw operations. But any form of static speculation will require fixup code in the cases where the speculation is wrong. There really is a cost to hoisting code with potential side-efffects across branches. I don't see any way to get around that. -Dave

Did I use "step" function correctly? (Is R's step() function reliable?)
Hi all, I put up an exhaustive model to use R's "step" function: ------------------------ mygam=gam(col1 ~ 1 + col2 + col3 + col4 + col2 ^ 2 + col3 ^ 2 + col4 ^ 2 + col2 ^ 3 + col3 ^ 3 + col4 ^ 3 + s(col2, 1) + s(col3, 1) + s(col4, 1) + s(col2, 2) + s(col3, 2) + s(col4, 2) + s(col2, 3) + s(col3, 3) + s(col4, 3) + s(col2, 4) + s(col3, 4) + s(col4, 4) + s(col2, 5) + s(col3,

[LLVMdev] nsw is still logically inconsistent
The recent discussion of nsw led me to go back and review the current definition of nsw in greater depth, and it turns out that even with all the theoretical effort, it's still logically inconsistent. First, a warning: The scenario below is artificial. This is just a demonstration. Also, ignore the fact that instcombine would zap everything. Depending on that would be an implicit pass

RailsCron 0.2 plugin
I received feedback from some of you, saying that it would be cool if RailsCron was even easier to manage. So I implemented a graceful start/restart inside of the plugin''s init.rb. If you don''t like it, comment it out and send me the feedback. Also, I finished an update to RailsCron that allows you to attach asynchronous processing methods to your ActiveRecord models. i.e.:
