OddCast or IceCast screws up extended characters
I'll purposely attach an HTML encoded message in case some of you are using 7-bit ascii readers.
I have a number of songs which use extended ASCII characters in the arist or title such as Màire Brennan - I Láthair Dé. The Current Song in the IceCast status.xsl replaces every extended character plus 1 or 2 characters after it with some strange character. So effectivly shortens the title

Binning data
Hello
I have a large series of data value -- effectivly say the point across the
x-axis where a pitch crosses home plate. What I want to do is find the % of
ground balls at various distances across home plate.
I therefore need to 'bin' the two data sets I have - plate location for
ground balls and plate location for all other outcomes.
Question is how can I set up a series of bins

change codec based on callerid (sip/iax)
I have been asked if asterisk can change codecs dynamically based on the
calling party's caller id. I couldnt find anything, and dont know that
this is something that asterisk can do, but it occurs to me that
possibly with a reinvite it can be done, however I dont think you can
issue those from the dialplan or agi.
The only solution I can think of on this is to use something like ser

Question regarding --delete-during/after and backup file cases
A good while ago I asked about difference between --delete-during/delay
and --delete-after, when per-directory files are updated (all is
perfectly clear for me here), but during the discussion there was a hint
made by Wayne, that the outcome can differ in more situations:
" It is useful for things such as --delay-updates --delete-delay (to
have all updates happen more rapidly at the

shared mailbox subfolder permissions
Hi all,
when I create a subfolder in a public mailbox the dovecot-shared file is
copied for the newly created subfolder and all mails get the owner, group
and permissions from the file. Unfortunately the cur, new and tmp folders
only get the permissions from the file but owner and group are set
according to the creator. This effectivly makes the folder private to the
creator.
Is this the

suggestion: directory promotion to filesystem
Not sure how technically feasible it is, but something I thought of while shuffling some files around my home server. My poor understanding of ZFS internals is that the entire pool is effectivly a tree structure, with nodes either being data or metadata. Given that, couldnt ZFS just change a directory node to a filesystem with little effort, allowing me do everything ZFS does with filesystems on

Multiple Samba's on same machine
I have tried hunting through docs/lists/Google but no joy. I am sure I saw something about running multiple Samba's on different ports but I want to use different interfaces all on port 139.
So: Can I run multiple s/nmbd's on the same machine?
I have nine main VLANs and somewher in the region of 30 odd worgroups (don't ask !) of which 10 are of interest. 3,500 odd PCs. I have a

sd_max_throttle
Hello,
we are using hardware array and its vendor recommends the following setting in
/etc/system:
set sd:sd_max_throttle = <value>
or
set ssd:ssd_max_throttle = <value>
Is it possible to monitor *somehow* whether the variable becomes
sort of bottleneck ? Or how its value influences io traffic ?

parsing protocol of states
Dear R-users,
actually i try to parse some state protocols for my work. i an easy
stetting the code below works fine, if states are reached only once. in
harder settings it could be possible that one state gets visited more
times. in this case for me its interesting to see how much waiting time
lies between to states on the whole.
by the way i didn't use R as a parsing tool so far, so

Passing a parameter with double quote characters
Another question, does wine use a different way to escape characters?
I'm trying to pass a parameter from Ubuntu to a particular Windows program that is picky and MUST have double quotes as part of the parameter string, but I can not seem to do that.
For example, using the following from the Ubuntu bash prompt:
Code:
wine cmd '/c=echo "parameter"'

Is this the best approach?
Hello,
I''m working on a Rails app with a fairly complex set of model
relationships. I''m abandoning my MySQL based search mechanism for
Ferret/acts_as_ferret in the hopes of being able to more easily and
effectivly enable searching. Before I get coding I was wondering if you
folks might be able to tell me if my plan makes sense, or what could be
a better way. The situation is as

Problem with overloading add type casts of numeric strings in PHP bindings
Overloaded methods are mapped in PHP to their implementation (_SWIG_0,
_SWIG_1, ..) based on the types and number of arguments the user supplies.
However, if one overload accept a string and another an integer the bindings
fail to separate them since PHP treats numeric strings much the same as
integers.
The problem is illustrated in WritableDatabase_replace_document() which
takes either the

Controlling Outbound traffic...alternative to dsl_qos_queue
Hi , this probably was asked many times before , but here it goes..
Until now i was using dsl_qos_queue - http://www.sonicspike.net/software/
Which limits outbound traffic and does packet priorites with iptables
using MARKed packets.. works very well , I run a ftpserver + webserver so
it''s usefull to set these 2 with lowest priority and my multiplayer gaming
running on certain UDP ports
