I had set these so that I could see more detailed messages about the LDAP
calls. How does this contribute to the problem I am trying to solve?

configuration files, not using specifying the old and new options
simultaneously. The "idmap config" options were apparently implied since
they're favored over the deprecated options.)
Despite that, I still have the same problem:

...understand is that group name resolution
through Winbind occasionally fails. Here's an example where one group name
could not be resolved. This causes "groups" to hang, presumably because it
is waiting for Winbind to provide the name and Winbind is waiting for the

Mounting Linux Samba Shares on Windows when Active Directory Server is down
Hi,
I am running Samba 3.6.19 and making my way through all the Active
Directory documentation. I have joined various Linux boxes to a
Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory domain. Windows 7 users who
log on with their domain accounts can mount the correct shares exported
by the Linux boxes without having to supply any additional credentials.
All working perfectly!
However, I have a

Thanks in advance for any good advice. If anybody can refer me to a document that describes how to do this, I would be more than happy to follow the directions!

list used blocks
Hi all,
I'm looking for a tool that lists the used blocks in an ext3 file system.
Is there already a tool that does exactly that? The closest I could
find is dumpe2fs which lists groups, and free blocks within the group.
Thanks,

Unusual behavior when two users have different shares with the same name
Hi,
In our global smb.conf we have the line:
include = /etc/smb/smb.%U.conf
which allows us to provide a different set of available shares to each user who connects. Notably, two users might have shares with the same name, but which point to different locations. And if both those users attempt to mount their own homonymous shares from the same machine, they each see their own share. But

Doubled Quotas on Ubuntu
Hi all,
I'm seeing doubled quotas on Windows 7 when connecting to Samba. By
doubled, I mean that if I set a 1GB group quota on Linux, I see a 2GB
quota on Windows 7. The quotas seem correct with Samba 3.6.19 running
on a Linux 2.6.32 kernel on Mandriva; they are incorrect with Samba
3.6.22 on a Linux 3.12 kernel on Ubuntu. What could be wrong?
In more detail, I'm testing on both a
