[ADV] New book: The Accessible Web
...;'t just a question of being a good citizen, or of meeting the increasing demands of legislation. It''s also about effectively communicating with a very large segment of your user base. Accessibility is often presented as being complex and confusing. Guidelines are published as edicts, carved in stone tablets that must be followed without question. That''s not very pragmatic. Because you are a real developer with a real projects to ship, you need to learn how to make content accessible, using accessibility guidelines as just that—guidelines. With this book, you&...

[RFC] One or many git repositories?
Monolithic is trying to solve the wrong problem - it's that simple. Any discussion or attempt to coddle those who think it's necessary is a waste of time. #dictator As part of any potential migration, everyone involved must start to accept certain changes, (large or small) to the workflow. The big challenge here isn't technical, it's mindset. It's convincing any group of

Users created in last few years cannot login after 4.7 -> 4.8 + winbind
...t one point my LDAP did have the samba schema installed with my its own SID's and smbpasswd's in it. My web app for users to change their Linux password would on the backend set their 'userPassword' and 'sambaNTPassword' via separate calls to keep them in sync. But when the edict to do single sign on to the coporate AD happened I stopped using any of the samba schema in my LDAP server. And I set each user's 'userPassword' field to something like '{SASL}per2' to use passthru on the LDAP authentication end. And I configured samba to use corporate AD w...

RMySQL LoadLibrary failure: Invalid access to memory location.
...t was there (I didn't see which one it was, but the libMySQL.dll in the MySQL Server 5.0\bin sub-folder is dated July 6th, 2007). Now the RMySQL library loads correctly in R 2.5.1 on my Windows XP machine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we haven't violated some other universal edict... -- TMK -- 212-460-5430 home 917-656-5351 cell

Version numbering vis a vis CentOS and RHEL
...RHEL and this turns it into a whole different, new, distro of Linux. That affects things like software certification, hardware support, security certification, etc. etc. It is now a stupendous burden on those of us who chose to implement it because it was "the same" as RHEL. Was this an edict resulting from the RedHat acquisition of CentOS? I can hear people saying, "Well, why don't you just use RedHat then?" I probably will have to now. But, we chose CentOS because it *was* RHEL, but it gave us more control (the ease of air-gapped repositories is a good example). I just...

Mail Server
Hi, I need to setup a new mail server and before I got my feet wet or losing in the configurations jungle, I really need some advice from the gurus here for what the best software to used for the mailserver base on CentOS 4.x setup. The objective is, the mailserver will be easy to setup, maintained and have some 1. database backend for storing user info ( mysql? ) 2. spam and antivirus
