Re: Darwine Can't See CUPS Printers
How do I know which edible ink cartridges to get for my printer? I'm a cake deco hobbyist and I want to start printing photo cakes for friends and family. The edible photo systems online look pretty expensive, but I hear that you can buy a cheap Canon printer and then just buy the edible inks and paper. But how will I know which edible ink cartridges match which Canon printer??? Please offer

GLMM random effects
Hello, I have a couple questions regarding generalized linear mixed models specifically around fitting the random effects terms correctly to account for any pseudo-replication. I am reading through and trying to follow examples from Zuur et al. Mixed Effects Models and Extensions in Ecology with R, but am still at bit unsure if I am specifying the models correctly. How to identify the two largest peaks in a trimodal distribution
Hello all I'm trying to do a simulation that involves identifying the minimum point between two peaks of a (usually) bimodal distribution. I can do this easily if there are only two peaks: CnBdens<-density(Ys/Xs) #probability density function for ratio of Ys to Xs for(p in 1:512) ifelse(CnBdens$y[p]>CnBdens$y[p-1],peak1<-p,break) #identifies first peak in probability

Performance Problems with Samba 2.0.3
Hello all, Since 2 or 3 days I have some performance problems when copying files from/to my Samba server. Copying is very slow, about 10x more than normal, and the CPU usage is almost 100% during the file copy. Everything else works fine (NFS, FTP ...). This server has been running for several weeks now, and never had any problems. Any clues what could cause this ? Thanks Marco Schwarz.

xmms titlepatch -- update
Hello, I have updated my titlestring patch for xmms. It now includes some kind of an 'advanced' tag editor. For now, this has to be enabled at compile time by defining VORBIS_ADV_EDIT, for more details, read the readme (see below). You might need a recent cvs-checkout of xmms, maybe it also applies against a release version but that is untested. Get a copy from

xmms titlestring patch for vorbis
Hello, Some time ago I developed a patch for xmms' vorbis plugin, that allows using arbitrary comment fields in the titlestring. Although it works quite well, I think it could be polished a bit and it might even have some bugs. I also want to know, what the xmms-developers think about it. Recently, I included some kind of an 'advanced' tag editor. For now, this has to be enabled at

I seem to be doing Dcv wrong
There is a paper (1) A new metric for categorical data, by S. H. Al-Harbi, G. P. McKeown, and V. J. Rayward-Smith, in Statistical Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, ed. Hamparsum Bozdogan, CRC Press, 2004. This paper introduced a distance measure Dcv for clustering. I have _not_ read this paper myself, and do not as yet have access to a copy of it, but I'm trying to make sense of
