sendmail refusing incoming connections from outside
Hello.
I am scratching my head about sendmail for a simple thing:
I have a CentOS 4 box on which I would like to receive e-mails.
when I type 'telnet localhost 25' I can connect successfully to the sendmail
service.
Now if I type: 'telnet 192.168.0.30 25' on the same host the connection is
refused.
It also refuses connections from another host.

centos-yumconf purpose
Hello.
I did try to find out some information about centos-yumconf, but I didn't
find any.
I would like to know what centos-yumconf rpm is made for and what it does
(just overwrite the yum.conf file, or copy things from the original and
create a new one ?).
I dont' really understand the necessity of this package, because I thought
that the version upgrade was made through the $releasever

Generally speaking, it seems that the structure to report an error is badly
implemented, and makes the error messages not clear enough.
For example, we might get a Code 23 error, but don't know anything about it.
This makes misconfigurations dif...

another yum question
Hello centos community,
I have a personal repository with self-made RPMs, and i need to include
this repository to yum.conf. But i've noticed that yum configuration is
overwritten when yum is updated. I can't update yum.conf manually on
my servers each time yum is updated ...
Is anyone have an idea ?
Thank you.

info: Apache 2 bandwidth limitation problems solved
Hello all,
Just a little info for users of Apache 2 amoung you who use bandwidth limitation, mainly ISPs.
I was using mod_bwshare (old: bw_share), one of the only bandwidth limitation by IP available, during one year with big problems for the bandwidth limitation (by IP and maximum amount), on CentOS 4. That introduced a slowness on the apache server and depending on the main DNS used, it did

Poprelayd parser released for Dovecot on RHEL 4
Hi all.
For those of you who are interested by using Poprelayd, I just made a fix
today for using Dovecot and sendmail with poprelayd.
Poprelayd allows you to log the IP addresses of people logging in through
POP and allowing them to send e-mails using your smtp server (allowing
relaying) for 15 minutes. It is very handy.
You can download the parser here:

filesystem corruption: resize inode not valid
Hello.
I am having a problem with one CentOS 4 box I have installed. It worked
perfectly for several days, was used as a gateway on my LAN.
After having reached the limit of the disk size by copying stuff from a
windows box to a samba shared drive on the centOS box, and after making a
reboot, the server didn't come up anymore.
Looking at it I was thrown to the repair console and when doing

Loosing keyboard
Hello.
I am experiencing a problem with CentOS 3, it's that when I start Xwindow,
my keyboard is lost and I can't do anything anymore. The Num Lock doesn't
react nor the Caps lock. It's like if it would just be disabled. If I quit
Xwindow, then my keyboard comes back again, working perfectly.
Did anybody also have this problem ? I had a look elsewhere but didn't see
anything

XF86Setup
Hello.
I am looking for the famous XF86Setup command used on RedHat 7.1 (for
XFree86) but I didn't find it on CentOS 3.1.
Did it change into something else ? Else how can I configure my monitor,
mouse, video card settings ?
Same questions for starting the hardware material configurator. How can I
force it to run ? I know that it runs automatically at boot when we change a
card or device, but

Can we for example take a RedHat 8.0 rpm and install it ?
Or can we for sure take an src.rpm and install it this way ?
Thanks for any advice,

hidden files prohibited on FAT32
Hello.
I have setup samba 3.0.10-1 on my Centos 4 system. I have setup samba to
make a share of a FAT32 filesystem. When I want to write to this shared
resource from a windows XP machine to change the hidden file attribute, I
get the following error: 'access denied'.
This happens as soon as I try to copy a hidden file or directory to this
shared drive or when I directly change the

Accents in filenames on vfat filesystem
Hello.
I am trying to create a text file that contains an accent like '?' in it's
filename on a vfat filesystem. This generates an error like the following:

I have made a 'modprobe nls_cp850' and 'modprobe nls_iso8859-1' to load
those needed modules.
Then I mounted my FAT32 partition like this:
