PCI-E CF adapter?
I know this is slightly OT but folks discuss zfs compatible hardware

Has anyone used something like this combination?

Dear Nico Williams:
Thanks for the reference! Very cool.
What I would most want is for ZFS (and every other filesystem) to
maintain a Merkle Tree over the file data with a good secure hash.

Disk Performance Issue
...ing observed happens
whether or not the machine is connected to our network. All of
our files appear to be accessible if one is patient.
One theory put forward is that some application is running that
uses up CPU and disk bandwidth.? Another theory is that thereare disk errors, mostly corrected by EDCS features. We do not
see any rogue applications and error logs show no disk issues.
This is a mysterious issue that we hope to circumvent by putting
a new disk and installing CentOS 7 from DVD.? Our hope is that
the current disk can be mounted externally on the new CentOS
system using a USB to SAT...

Feature requests for princomp(.) : Allow cor() specifications
...xibility as with "cor(.)",
e.g., I may want
princomp(x, ..., use.obs = "pairwise.complete")
Actually, I may want even more flexibility.
Currently,
princomp(.)
has
if (cor)
cv <- get("cor", envir = .GlobalEnv)(z)
else cv <- cov(z)
edc <- eigen(cv)
and If may want it to use a robust covariance or correlation matrix instead,
e.g.,
princomp(x, cv = cov.mve(x), .....)
Note that for prcomp() which works on the SVD rather than the
correlation/cov. matrix, similar flexibility may be required.
Opinions?
Volunteers?

Help With File transfer of files named "Apple*" + Lacie 5Big RAID
Hello Rsync Community,
I have been using rsync for several years to backup servers across an
array of different areas.
I have run into a new problem that I cannot find an answer for.
We just recently purchased a Lacie 5Big Network RAID: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1596257
for one organization.
We set up a test server to start backing up to this RAID via AFP. The
server is a Mac Intel XSERVE running Leopard 10.5.6.
We are rsync'ing an internal volume of staff users to the AFP share
via this command set nightly.

The Future of R | API to Public Databases
Dear R Users -
R is a wonderful software package. CRAN provides a variety of tools to
work on your data. But R is not apt to utilize all the public
databases in an efficient manner.
I observed the most tedious part with R is searching and downloading
the data from public databases and putting it into the right format. I
could not find a package on CRAN which offers exactly this fundamental

OPeNDAP access with R
I am in the process of converting from Matlab to R, but a major sticking
point for me at the moment is accessing data via OPeNDAP.
After several hours of searching, I found that other people have discussed
this functionality in the past, but it does not appear to have yet been
developed. One programmer, Luke Miller, has managed a work-around by
downloading ascii data from an OPeNDAP site (
